3. Mouth+Birds=Bad.
Negative gram bacteria v. positive gram bacteria. Can make your bird sick or worse.

11. Most parrots love Italian food
and it's good for them.

Essentially, what's a good diet for us is good one for them - grains, veggies, fruit, a bit of meat, eggs and milk products.

Good to be here, DK.

14. when I was in high school/first couple years of college
I worked in a pet store and a couple times a week all the parrots got meal worms, but Watson HATES insects of ANY kind. Loves meat though - in fact he will eat just about anything (except bugs)so gets a vary varied diet - that is why he usually looks really good. Only in the spring when its dry and the wind blows and he spends too much time outside then the ends of all hi feathers get curled up and frizzy - it almost looks like some kind of wierd mutation. As soon as the summer rains start (IF!) he immediatly looks good again.

24. no way!
when he's in the shower he wants it all to himself - he gets really rowdy and likes to flop around and laughs hysterically. (and bites your feet if you try to get in there) when he's done he goes to the other end of the tub and huddles pitifully like a drowned rat screeching HHHEEEELLLLP until you come get him and put him either out side in the sun or in front of a fire or heater in the winter.

Best for him is a warm summer rain while he's out in a tree - he gets way out on a skinny branch and starts bowncing up and down and hangeing upside down laughing and flapping his wings. He really enjoys rain and showers but HATES the hose - if you try to spray him he tries to get away and gets mad. Some kind of childhood trauma, I guess.

9. My bird's a steak and potato kind of tiel......
and has been known to spear herself a fishstick. ;) And attack a bowl of corn. :)

it sounds odd that a bird would like chicken, but they need a little meat now and again. :D

16. Think of it this way:
A psitticine (parrot-type bird) is no more related to a chicken than a primate is to a cow. They're both birds, but humans and cows are both mammals.

19. my neighbour had one of these-your picture just reminded me..
his name was Quincy. one day i was talking to Ron an Qunicy, and my cat, Mr Big, strolled over to see what was going on. Quincy hopped over to Big (not an ironic name) and started grooming his head. Biggy was digging it when all of the sudden they both got a "WTF!?!" look on their faces, and Quincy eased back toward Ron, and Mr Big Looked on in disbelief. maybe you had to be there, but it was comedy gold... :D

23. Dear Pe(n)thouse...
"As an avid reader of your column, I thought of you and only you for help with this problem. My grandmother, 78 and widowed, is a kind, generous woman who has seen her share of difficult times. She is a bit offbeat, but extremely conservative and religious. After my grandfather passed on, she purchased a lively little parakeet and named him Pretty Baby. Pretty Baby has provided wonderful companionship and entertainment for my grandmother, even learning to speak to her. Pretty is an amazing mimic, repeating phrases she has taught him: "I love you," "lock the door!", "give me kisses," etc."

8<------- Snip

" She purred, "Give Grandma lovin', Pretty Baby, give Grandma lovin'." She then turned to me and said, "Pretty Baby wants to give me lovin' and he won't quiet down until he does." Pretty Baby proceeded to screech more and more loudly, as he humped my grandmother's finger wildly. She also moved it back and forth for him. I was stunned and unsure of what was happening so I sat quietly in my chair looking in the opposite direction, hoping I wasn't really witnessing what I thought I was. My grandmother cleared it up quickly, saying, "He'll calm down after he climaxes," smiling away and continuing to repeat, "Give me your lovin', Pretty Baby, that's it...." When Pretty Baby was finished, she looked back at me and said, "I better wash my hands!"
