I attend Oklahoma State University, and we have a thing called Orange Peel before the first home football game of the season. This year Incubus is the band playing along with comedian Jim Bruer. Last Sunday a Baptist preacher informs his loyal flock what an incubus is and says the band has lyrics laced with profanity, sex, and drugs. The next day members of the congregation protested at the school calling for the cancellation of the concert which is next friday.
My thoughts are it is a rock and roll band if they aren't going to sing about sex and drugs and cuss what is the point? Not to mention the bill was announced a few months ago and 23,000 tickets have already been sold. What good does it do to complain now? The organizers have already stated that the show is PG-13 and for college students and not elementary kids. A thought I just had is what if it were Bob Dylan coming to town would they protest? He has been known to sing about sex and drugs as well, and he is even a Jew! Fundie bastards. It isn't like Stillwater isn't already a fairly backwater town to begin with. What is to matter with bringing a pretty big band to town?
