26. Isn't everything he does an ego trip?
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 08:05 AM by Gracie43
He directed it ... and badly.

One can take a certain enjoyment in watching Nimoy cringe his way thru the role.

(Thought balloon) "I'm going blow my freaking brains out" or "The money's good; the money's real good."

3. Oh, you'd be surprised... those trips to the Ferengi minimall in the Delta
quadrant... It's such a WASTE to just materialize!

And even God might want the cool factor... It's like the porn star that buys the red Corvette....

Pcat (removing tongue from cheek and waiting for things to be thrown at her...)

8. I know a lot of people hate it, but I love that one
Cuold have been better - and by Shatner's own admission, it should have been better, but he ran out of money and had to change the ending because, as he admits it, he didn't budget time and money properly as a director.

The ending he wanted to do was awesome! had a lot more to do with God and stuff.

But even as it is, there's a lot of excellent Trek in that movie. A lot.

13. I'd have liked to have seen what he originally intended...
But I'm geeky like that. :)

Ever see "The Abyss"? When I bought the DVD, I got a deluxe edition that included an alternate ending which was totally different from the one I saw on the big screen.

20. Yeah, th deluxe version actually makes sense
I loved it in the theater - such beautiful filming! Great story! And then WHAMMO, the ending made no sense at all. My friends and I who saw it couldn't make heads or tails of it. But we loved it anyway! one of the most gorgeous of all films.

Then I saw the deluxe film, with all the stuff that EXPLAINS the aliens put back in, and I thought, "Wow! That DOES make sense, and it's AMAZING."

Then the asshole went on to make Titanic. Fucker.

i still love the AByss, though. One of the best films, and a highly and sadly underrated film.

30. Me, Too!
I like the whole hanging philosophical message that god might just be a really powerful alien who occasionally finds a telepathic pipeline to a few receptive people. Not really god, at all, just powerful beyond our puny comprehension.

28. Let me explain why Star Trek V is better than everyone says it was
As Shatner's directorial debut, it was a little on the weak side. The script was perhaps not as great as some of the others.

But here's the thing: what was great about that film was the story centering around the family relationship between the holy trinity of star trek - kirk, spock and mccoy.

The opportunities for the characters to really talk about their deep friendship and family bond, especially as all star trek fans knew we were not likely to see them much longer, was really great.

Plus the scene in the brig is hilarious. :)

31. "It's a song you green-blooded.....Vulcan!
...You sing it! You're supposed to have a good time singing it!"

"I am truly sorry doctor. Were we having a good time?"

"God, I liked him better before he died."

"Captain...?"

"Spock, we're on leave. You can call me Jim."

"Jim...?"

"Yes, Spock?"

"Life is not a dream."

"Go to sleep, Spock."

"Yes, Captain."

29. Oh, oh....Shatner's bloated ego fest. A number of problems with this film.
1) The dicey preposition of mixing God and sci-fi. Handled right, it could be intriguing. Boy, this sure wasn't.

2) Did my eyes deceive me, or was there some sort of romance between Scotty and Ulhura? Not one word of exposition on this.

3) The whole premise was shaky. A not very realized storyline.

The 2nd worst in the "Star Trek" films. Right after "ST-TMP"
