4. Can't vote, but you've piqued my interest
Now I suppose I'll have to listen to some Neu! at least.

Were Can and Faust as influential?

8. Luv me some Krautrock
I listen to alla them .
Probably play the Neu! with red type on white b.g. most often.

SLB, surely you are a Julian Cope man. If you aren't familiar with his excellent website, herewith:
http://www.headheritage.co.uk/

Amongst other thiings he is a massive Krautrock expert (even wrote a good guide on the subject)

He reviews and reccommends music every month and has an "all-ugly radio"
feature.

Do have a look!

nb: to those of you who are unfamiliar, Cope writes in a very singular vernacular which may take getting used to.

9. I love Julian.
I've had at one point or another everything between Kilimanjaro and Interpreter. He's a true artist. Ever read his book 'The Modern Antiquarian'? He's a surprising guy.

12. I have Modern Antiquarian!
What a thing. You know he lectures on ancient sites, right? Even at the British Museum! Fabolus.

Oh - the headheritage site has a Modern Antiquarian section with updates and stuff from other enthusiasts of stone circles and chalk figures.

(The book's pix of his wife, Dorian are a bit on the TMI tip, no?)

But lest this thread transmogrifies from your original topic....

11. Jeebus, that's a hard choice
All three bands were hugely important and influential.

If pressed, I'll take Neu out of consideration, because I don't think they were the ideal exemplars of that flavor of minimalism-- compared to American punk like the Stooges, Neu was downright effete.

The difference between Can and Faust, as I see it, is the difference between process (spontaneously generated song forms) and product (active pursuit of new sounds). Thus it's easier for we who stand on their shoulders to emulate Can than Faust-- but harder to do it well. (I used to play in a band that frequently used to get compared to Can. We ended up doing a Can pastiche on the record, a 53 second long invocation of the groove to "Oh Yeah" off Tago Mago.)

I guess I'll vote for Can, since I have four Can CDs in my main listening pile right now, and no Faust.
