Favorite Pizza place?
Just moved back to Columbus, Ohio and am scouting around for some good pizza places and it got me to thinking about all the places I have lived and who had the best pizza (and pasta/subs/wings/salads and such).

So check in if you have a few minutes and share some of your favorite places and what you like about them so much.

One of my favorites is Tommy's Pizza. I would not say the pizza is the best in town by any stretch, but we have went to the same place for almost 30 years and the place has not changed one but that I can see (a little nostalgia with your pizza can make up for other things).

When I was in Ridgecrest, CA, I liked nickoletti's (had some butt kicking baked zitti). A lot of fond memories of that place as well (and mojave red beer).

When I lived in Tehachapi I honestly cannot recall any pizza places I went to but I loved going to Kelcy's and getting either the double cheeseburger or biscuits and gravy. Mmmmmm.

Well, back to my pizza (from Little Sicily's).

1. Punch in St. Paul
Incredible Neapolitan-style pizza. It's the best pizza I've had in the cities hands down.

8. Neapolitan-style
I will admit to be an uncultured slob. What the heck is a Neapolitan-style, does it have ice cream on it :)

Neapolitan-style
Is a pizza made in a special brick oven with crushed tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and olive oil. It looks something like this:

I like prosciutto, arugula, cracked red pepper and goat cheese as extra ingredients on mine.

Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 03:21 PM by LiberalVoice
Go to almost any corner store/deli in Jersey! Tons of turkey, mayo, shredded lettuce, american chesse, a little bit of black pepper, and some oil & vinegar! Man I almost wanna get in my car and drive over and get one. Too bad I live 500 miles away!

9. Do they deliver?
There is a place in Amarillo, the big texan, which has a 72oz steak which you can order online and have delivered (well, frozen and uncooked) anywhere http://www.bigtexan.com

If you ever go through the area it is worth stopping in (and they have a tornado museum).

11. I'll second that!
I took a detour from a loooooong trip from MA to MD a few weeks
ago to stop and see Chic and family and get a sweet sausage and
green pepper 'tomato pie'!

My family's been going there for over 20 yrs. My mom still goes
every two weeks.

:D

45. You are correct...
DeLorenzo's is quite possibly the best pizza anywhere on this earth...it's not so much food but a work of art. I can conjure up the smell of that place and make my mouth water if I just think about it.

The more serious question is...Hamilton Ave or Hudson St.?

I vote Hamilton Ave, many fond high school and childhood memories at that one!

4. Here in West Carrollton/Miamisburg/Springboro, Ohio area
we have Ron's Pizza. They make their pizza on thin crust and put the toppings all the way out to the edges. I like a peporoni, extra cheese and mushroom pizza. I can eat a large one of those all by myself if I'm really hungry.

23. Next time you come
Go to downtown Norcross and try Paizanos. Best pizzza in Georgia. So good that the train engineers have been known to call ahead and place an order then jump out to pick it up as they pass through downtown.

Not quite as good as Roselands in Ct but frigging close

7. Edwardo's
It's a chain, so they're probably not as good as locally owned, but they have a most excellent stuffed pizza. I usually get a large pep and mushroom and save the leftovers. It's the only pizza I can eat cold.

But, there are no Edwardo's in Minnesota (Twin Cities) anymore. I think I have to go to Chicago to have it again.

Due Forni in Berlin: Their Walnut, Rocket Salad, balsamico and Parma Ham pizza is to die for.

Pepe's and Bar in New Haven are at least as good (albeit a completely different type of Pizza). Ah, I'll be there again next month ...yummy.

I have found that Columbus does not have any great pizza places. My favorite Columbus only Pizza place is Minuteman, and I also like Masseys.

Mellow Mushroom is the best though. They don't have any in Columbus :(

35. Rule of thumb (in Brazil. Don't know if it holds for the USA)
Run from megachains like the plague. Buy from local, mom'n'pop operations. Biggest, tastiest, yummiest, most varied pizzas there is. Usually cheaper too.

38. same rule in Europe
If the owner operates more than two places: avoid it. Goes for pretty much all types of food.
Of course there are far fewer chain Restaurants than in the US to start with.

we'll have yo go there. You do a good job picking restaurants. That Mexican place you took us all during the State convention was yummy.

My favorite pizza place used to be One Guy From Italy in Lubbock. They had the best sausage pizza EVER. But now it just reminds me too much of my ex. *sigh*

I'm kinda partial to Mangia and Austin's Pizza here in Austin. Saccone's is pretty good too - just a little greasy.

Go to Kingy's at Hill Rd/St Rt33 outside Canal Winchester, or Pizza Cottage over in Buckeye Lake. Rubino's in Bexley still good. Tommy's is always good, and for serious heartburn, good, greasy spicy, Massey's still got it.
