Poll question: Taking Dinner and a Movie to new heights of wrongness
http://www.cinemagrill.com/contenido/index.php

The above is the closest cinema to my house that's playing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkiban that is not an IMAX (no motion sickness at the movies, please!).

It's literally a dinner theater. quote:
The Cinema Grill is a unique dining & entertainment experience, which combines current feature films, a wide beverage selection including beer & wine, and an American Style Menu featuring a tempting array of freshly prepared appetizers, entrees and delicious desserts. All served at your table by our hospitable staff, while you enjoy the show from your comfortable swivel chair! Welcome to your new favorite way to do "Dinner and a Movie". Welcome to the Cinema Grill!

So, is it just me, or is the idea of you and 50 of your favorite dinner types chowing down on diner food a little disturbing?

Have we taken eating in front of the TV to a new, disgusting height?

2. is it noisy? Do people chatter and eat like wild wolverines with
saliva problems?

4. no.
The waiter takes orders and has dinner there before the movie starts.

Food is essentially bar food - chicken fingers, wings, burgers, etc.

The theater is actually quieter than people munching on popcorn and rattling crinky candy wrappers.

3. Great idea
I like to go to an alternative theater where there is art on the walls and you can drink really good imported beer. They show underground films like documentaries from other countries, Cannes, Sundance, etc.

5. There's one in Raleigh
I've been a couple of times. It's very nice to be able to eat real food with a glass of wine or a beer and watch a movie.

And no, I didn't experience any boorish behavior. In fact, once the movie started playing I didn't hear anyone else.

8. I was asst' kitchen manager at a place like this in SC
several years ago.

It was an old art-deco theater that used to show silents and talkies in the 20's, and was a popular movie house in the 30's-60s but then economic depression in the area forced them to shut down and the building went vacant for many years.

In the 90's, it was bought, refurbished to original decor, and refitted with chairs & tables instead of rows of seats.

We had a full-service kitchen in the back and served everything from Pizza to hamburgers to salads--everything.

The movies were cheap and the food was cheaper. They started out showing second-run films but got popular enough to start showing feature films.

Even before I worked there, my husband (then boyfriend) and I went there frequently. It always sucked if we wanted Dinner & a Movie and having to coordinate the time to get to the restaurant and have time to order & eat and have enough time to get to the theater, buy tickets, and find a place to sit--we'd always over or under juge time---either get to the theater 20 minutes after the start of the film, or get done eating an hour before the previous movie let out.

The theater was (and still is) WILDLY popular. Don't dismiss this idea!!! You just may like it!
