Pissed Off My First Lurking Freeper Bad Enough....
That the moderator deleted the post they made. Wow.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2307983&mesg_id=2307983

I have to confess that shook me a little bit. I mean, I know the topic is controversial (Gay Marriage), but still. I never made anyone THAT mad before. I'm sticking with the Teresa Heinz Kerry line -- I Am Not Afraid -- but to be honest, a little bit of me IS. Not enough to stop fighting, not enough to stop posting, not enough to "be silent", but AWARE in a way I haven't been before.

I'm a straight white woman happily married to a fabulous man. My intellectual understanding of issues faced by those who are gay in America has just been enhanced by a very small, very impersonal experience in an incredibly safe environment. What must it be like for those who can't escape from the hate??? And if someone in my position cannot find the courage to fight the good fight, then what is the point of my humanity???

Deep breath. Onward!!!

1. It seems there have been a lot of them lately. Good job flushing one out.

2. RE: Your manifesto
Very good.

Remember, that manifesto should read like a position paper. You do not want it to play to the converted, but to the undecideds. Those people, you just don't want to scare off.

3. Thanks, Tandalayo.
I'm really hoping the "outrage" position will help them realize the profit potential, and how it affects THEIR lives. Small business owners are everywhere (as are gay people), and my mother taught me that money is always GREEN. I am hoping that by being in the majority (and making it a majority issue -- "responsible for hospital bills" :eyes:), we can get the same people who were mad at "welfare mothers" to DEMAND gay people get married. I figure its worth a shot. The "do it because its the right thing" argument hasn't been working, so let's try the "do it because it will help you get RICH!" :)

4. The topic is not CONTROVERSIAL
It is the same as WMD, merely one of the latest in a long line of
things made into a mock debate to keep the slaves at each others
throats thus giving the powers that be a free hand to loot and
plunder without worring about anyone paying much attention to them.

Would love to break everyone's bubble but none of the following are debatable topics.
women's right to vote
prohibition
civil rights
killing people
stem cell research
a living wage
health care
gay marriage/pairage

As for what to do about being steam rolled by the propaganda machine
that implants these mock debates, sorry, is seems it might be debatable
about what to do on this one however the fear is that it will have to get much worse before it can finally be addressed in a serious manner
with numbers of people willing to so what has to be done in order to bring about the changes needed.

7. Agree Somewhat.
If these weren't "debatable" topics, we would HAVE all of these things already. The "mock debate" is code for "BE AFRAID" and we need to find ways to get past that emotion. As Bill Clinton said, "when people think, Democrats win." Please take a few minutes to go over and comment on the General Discussion thread. I'm interested in your viewpoint. :)

5. Thank god the mods deleted it, for a selfish reason:
my own health.

"If someone in my position cannot find the courage to fight the good fight, then what is the point of my humanity?" Well said, Ida!

6. Thank you, Bertha.
It really makes me admire John, Teresa, John & Elizabeth even more! They have to face down the bile on a daily basis, while I can just walk away when I need a moment. They have all of the money they already need to live safe, comfortable lives, yet they fight on to benefit other people (as opposed to themselves, like the Bush cronies do). I am proud of our candidates! I hope I can help them!!! :) Ida
