Okay, I didn't take my own advice
I tried staying away from the knitting site that got so heated about Muslim extremists in Chechnya, but I failed. I also told myself not to read the thread that got so bad, but I did. I kind of lost it. God, I need to get better at this internet stuff. :P

What really got me going was that the racist who posted a link to a racist site ("How many concentration camps would it take to eradicate all the Muslims?") posted a nasty rant attacking me, calling me a terrorist sympathizer because I simply posted some of Chechen history, said that history doesn't matter when people attack children, and said that I must be okay with killing children if it's for independence.

And this is normally a nice place. *Sigh*

Now what do I do? I didn't post a very nice reply, in all honesty, mostly because I'm Russian Orthodox, have actually lived and taught in Russia, and have been praying for my fellow humans caught in such a terrible, chaotic darkness. I had said that in my posts, but she ignored it and all but called me a terrorist and baby-killer.

Should I try taking another break?

1. Smack her down. Don't be afraid.
And if she is already over the line, report her to the mods.

2. A knitting site? You got flamed on a knitting site?
That is so sad.

I generally don't bother to discuss issues with crazy people, so for me, I wouldn't waste time or energy with that person anymore. She is not going to change.

Is the site moderated? Maybe the owner of the site will intervene if you bring the event to their attention.

Good luck and happy knitting.

3. ....
I just read what you wrote over there, and I don't think it was a "not nice" reply at all. Unfortunately, EZ board does'nt have "ignore" like we do here at DU. I would just stay out of that particular forum for a while, if it was me. To tell you the truth, the Knitting for Snipers thread the other week creeped me out and I stayed out of that forum for a week at least.

OT, I picked up some Naturespun in Plumberry today, and I am going to take my first attempt at an easy lace pattern scarf! That is, once I finish felting my handbag...

6. You think so?
You don't think it was bad? It sure felt like it writing it. You're right--I need to stay away a bit longer.

What's your moniker over there? I'm having trouble placing you.

Naturespun can torque a bit, which is murder to lace (unless you steam it after a serious blocking) I would use a size bigger needles than called for to help with that.

What bag are you working on? I have yet to felt but am starting to feel like I should try doing it once. Do you like your pattern?

4. so are you a terrorist and a baby killer? NO.
i learned a lot doing admin at another site and the webmaster was extremely wise and i have adopted some of his philosophy and made it my own..let me share a direct quote out of his FAQS:

"...I don't like your site /views. What do I do?

If you're stupid enough to take everything literally and get all worked up over it, go to another site. It's very, very easy...Writing to say that I'm a racist, insensitive, that I hate women /this /that is not gonna help, so save yourself a few minutes. I know what I am and what I'm not, so what you think I am, it's not that high on my "things to lose sleep over" list...."

i realise you are tangling with a person who is being rude, but in the long run, is what that person thinks about you important to you? If so, why? If they say something nasty about you, does it make it true?

my advice to you is to copy the bolded statement of landi's paste it as an answer to her thing and take a break. that she posted foul unsupported stuff about you speaks VOLUMES about her, and really says nothing at all about you.

good luck....

5. That is really good advice
It must be good, since my mom said something similar. :) You're right: people at that site know me well enough to know she's not describing me, and her opinion sure doesn't matter anymore.

It's still sad, though, to find out someone I liked is a racist.
