With the amount of money they pay players, and with the 'sports medicine' they have today, they're not about to risk their stars ripping out their shoulder or something batting. They train entire different muscle groups for pitching as batting. IF they were just left to train without the help of modern *science* and they chose not to have them hit, I'd see it differently...but as it stands, it's nought to do with *wussiness*. It's economics.
