today, my old neighbor's kid Johnny dropped by. He had brought with him a 12 speed lugged steel 70's vintage road bike he bought for $10 bucks at a thrift shop. Non indexed shifting, looked like first generation cotterless cranks. The rear mech was the old Shimano simplex clone. Bulletproof.
It replaced a double suspension dimestore bike that he rode to pieces. I tightened the wheel bearings a bit, and gave the front Derailleur a bit of adjustment, aired up the tires and off he went.
Nice kid, 17 now, and still into bikes (he figured out the only kind of car he can afford is non functional). But now he is giving up curb hopping, and is learning how a road bike handles. Next I will talk him into toe tins. But for now, back to getting him to wear the helmet. Since he broke his elbow last year he seems to have gotten the whole safety thing a bit better.
But back to you. I hope you enjoyed the porkchop, and enjoyed being fit, in a world of flab.
