BLUE EYES:
Alcohol habits influenced by eye color

Carin Pettersson 01.09.04 09:57

A new research report indicates that eye color influence drinking habits, and people with blue eyes are more likely to drink themselves to courage in social settings.

The Nordic drinking pattern where people drink themselves into a stupor on the weekends is often criticized. Research indicates that this is hereditary and influenced by the many blue-eyed people in the Nordic region.

A research project presented by Eric Nævdal, researcher at the Agricultural University of Norway and Princeton University, indicates that there is a connection between blue eyes and drinking patterns.

Blue-eyed persons appear to be more constrained or shy in a larger degree than others and use alcohol to fight this in social settings.

1. Well, I lived in Norway for a while
and I can tell you that from Friday to Sunday, most Norwegians are cross-eyed drunk. Since I'm from New Orleans I am accustomed to seeing lots of drunks during Mardi Gras, but I've never seen so many people smack their faces on the pavement from drinking so much as I have in Scandinavia. During the work week Norwegians tend to be very quiet, just do their job and go home.

Since my town is an alcoholic's paradise, most natives have learned moderation and look at drunk tourists as a nuisance to be tolerated. I tried to explain "moderation" to my Norwegian friends, but by the time I could get them to understand my point, they were already drunk - back to square one.

My Norwegian friends every Friday and Saturday night:

6. It was in The New York Metro.
The article talked a little about how Dean says that no one really bothers him when he walks down the street. They look at him like they think they've seen him somewhere before but can't quite place him. :)

I can relate to that. Being uncomfortable in a social setting is torture for me.

7. I'm brown/green-eyed and drink most any night of the week
Work or no. But then, I seldom drink to the point of drunkenness. Just a moderate buzz.
