How're the floridians doing?
Can anybody drive over and tell me if Rush Limbaugh's house has been blown away?

1. Gainesville... nothing going on
Yesterday morning they were forcasting tropical storm-force winds in the area, but right now we have little rain and almost dead air. Kinda boring right now.

3. Windy rain all night long near Miami.
All the dead palm fronds have been nicely pruned by Frances and I'm enjoying the fresh breezes. Only the regular thud of coconuts falling is keeping me inside.

Check out this site for the wind speeds just offshore.

6. Tampa, 10 am
Windy, rainy...news just said 50,000 folks now without power here "...and you won't get it back anytime soon..." Feeling pretty thankful still, as I have friends in Melbourne and buds in Polk that still have Charley damage.

I just cut down a couple good-sized tree limbs that were dancing a little too close to our incoming power lines.

7. South Sarasota County here
No damage here yet, although the cable tv is out. It's windy outside, not much rain. It's been like that all night.

8. East of Tampa, large branches down in the back... winds are picking up
...some neighbors are without power. They expect the eye to hit Tampa Bay at high tide tonight. :(

10. Cutler Ridge
My folks are starting to take the plywood down...lots of leaves/palm fronds on the ground but apparantly very little significant damage.

Power still on and land-line phone service still working.

Dad described it to be similar to "Walking along the English coastline in winter...very blustery"

They dodged the bullet this time. Andrew got them the last time.

Now we'll watch Ivan I guess...

11. It's picking up steadily here in Lakeland.
I have been listening to my scanner. They have stopped dispatching the fire dept and ambulances until after Frances passes. Latest projection shows it going right over us around 2pm. I just heard the police dispatcher say there are gusts up to 50 mph right now. There's trees down blocking streets, live wires down, railroad crossing gates out of service, many houses and buildings damaged already. Power is out in several locations. Two hurricanes in three weeks time is a little too hard to handle. It should start easing off around 4 - 5 pm.

12. FRANCES is still creeping over the state
We are about one hour south of Tampa, and so far, just heavy winds, and sporatic rain squalls at 1 pm now. Sorry for the poor people that are getting hit twice.

Broken branches strewn all over the golf course, and the wind is really picking up.
