If there's no fire, earthquake or hurricane involved...it's not news....

6. I don't care about the earthquakes.
I've slept through the last three major ones we have had here. It's the fires out here that are devastating, and this is how last years big ones started. Here is my back yard view from last October:

7. Its over 100 here in west Sonoma County....
There is a big fire burning since Friday near the geysers to the east of us, and it blew a lot of smoke this way yesterday, as the wind was from the east. We have the breeze coming from the ocean today, so there's not as much smoke, but its hot as hell.

Huntington Beach is my home town.

I agree with TJ about the fires. Damn the Santa Anas. I never had one get near my house, but that doesn't matter. Lots of people are affected by them. There was one in '79 or '80 that blocked the sun -- or at least turned it red even at its apex -- for days, even at the beach. I'll never forget that.

here come those Santa Ana winds again . . .

edit: crappy html tagging today

10. Currently 92 degrees 50 miles north of L.A.
We had a high today of 94, with 13mph winds from the east (Santa Anas). That's mild, both wind and temp-wise for us. I'm glad, because a brush fire broke out about 10 miles west of me this morning. They got it knocked down quickly; so much has already burned there that there's not much fuel left in that spot.

I appreciate the milder temps during the day...but it's almost 7pm. It could cool down now!

14. Escondido here. And not a wind to be heard today.
Yesterday we had winds, but not Santa Ana's - yet it felt strange all day. Spooky weather. I don't like Sept./Oct. cuz that's when all the bad stuff usually happens. Not saying what 'bad stuff' is. Bad luck to do so. lol? Anyone who lives here knows what I'm talking about.

OK, gonna go knock on wood that only good stuff happens in Sept./Oct. Like * getting nailed on every single lie he's made in the past 3 1/2 years. Now wouldn't that be nice?
