The Original "Robocop" Movie
Of all the movies that were about the future, this movie, Robocop, was the most accurate. The story centers around a corporate contractor that's running the police force in Detroit, as well as the military. I saw it again last night, and it was truly eerie.

There's one scene involving the plot's main villain, Dick Jones that's really telling. Dick Jones is talking to the leader of a criminal gang. Dick wants this bad guy to kill Robocop. The bad guy asks, "can we get some military weapons to do the job". Dick responds, "We are the military". Amazing.

Dick Jones = Dick Cheney.

Watch the original Robocop again, and keep in mind that this movie came out in the late 80s!!!!

2. yes!
As sci-fi, it's so-so, but as cautionary allegory, it's amazing. So is "They Live", if you're keeping score.

3. Halliburton Is OCP!!
Even down to the dim-witted news anchors, that movie says it all.

5. The other amazingly topical thing about Robocop
was their depiction of the "news."

7. Yes, it is...
...I'm 37, and it was too gory for my tastes when it came out. Particularly the scene where the soon-to-be-robo cop was shot literally to pieces by a gang, and when one of the gang members falls into toxic waste and basically explodes when hit by a car.

I think the violence in it hides the fact that it's actually a very clever commentary on what was then a growing phenomenon of US corporatization of public interests, and an embrace of a near fascist police-state.

But if it had said that on the poster, nobody would have gone to see it.

10. The Sad Part About The Violence Is That
it became the focal point of the movie instead of the message. Sequels to the film became more and more ridiculous.

You wouldn't expect an American (other than Kubrick) to be so on target, would you?
