Hurricane Ivan 135mph Category 4!!!
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 07:13 PM by Bleachers7
This thing is off the charts. This was supposed to go from 125 to 135 in 12 hours. It did it in 3. It has gone up about 60mph in less than 24 hours. It's just amazing. Here is the 5:00 wind chart.

You can get more info on Ivan here. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ Floridians, it was nice knowing you. :hi:

Unless Ivan somehow weakens, they are in for a world of hurt. :(

3. And Cuba again. Between Cuba and the Keys, those two areas
get most of the hurricanes. These things are not fun.

9. One of my friends is Haitian.
He says that Haiti never gets it bad because the Dominican Rep. takes the hit. It is also mountainous and that weakens the hurricane. This storm might come from the south and blow that theory. I bet the DR and Cuba would weaken this thing, but it depends on it's speed. Also if it turns north and misses Florida it has open water to work with. It could be a problem for the Carolinas or the mid-Atlantic/northeast.

I have seen models that have a high pressure system moving into the southeast. This could help move this thing north past/close to Florida. It could also slip behind the high and hit the gulf states, but I don't think so. We'll see.

I could have sworn this thing was at only 75mph late this morning when I left for work.

This must be some kind of record.

8. I think...
but I don't know for sure that this is strengthening because it has access to super warm water. It is the only hurricane to develop under the 10th parallel. I think it's tapping into warm equatorial water. Have a look at this map.

The temperature at the 10th parallel is 1-2 degrees warmer than the water just north. This makes a difference and is unprecedented.

5. Jeez
That sucks... I'm starting to rethink wanting to live on the islands now...

Have there been 3 consecutive hard-hitting storms in the same area within weeks of each other? That seems kinda remarkable to me.

7. Grr.... An hour ago my roof started leaking in my kitchen... I don't need
another hurricane... it's going to be hard enough to find anyone to fix this with so many others needing repairs next week... Guess I'll be going up in the rafters tomorrow with a can of spray insulation... I wish the freaking rain would stop now. :(

13. It's been building the last few days. We were too occupied with
Frances. I saw it on some of the bigger weather charts. Started out quiet enough.

12. I hope this thing stays out of the gulf...........
It's been quiet here in TX this season and I hope it stays that way. I feel bad for anyone who gets in it's path. :(
