6. Sailor Moon was cool but Space Cruiser Yamato was better if
you were a little boy.

The girls in that picture were waaaayyyy too old to play SM and the others. The girls in the cartoons were around fourteen or fifteen, I think, and mostly very slim.

Yamaot, on the other hand, was animation that showed people getting blown up real good. My male chromosomes were sated.

3. What is that, anyway?

Is it some kind of hentai computer game from Japan?

You know, like where you have to follow a trail of sugar cookies and urine-soaked panties to the Dark Lair of Morwynbane and rescue the telepathic teenage kung-fu princess of the oversexed aardvark-people from the dragon Stankhaunches and his master, the evil and eternal Lord Smogbreath -- thereby winning her love, taking her in marriage, dressing her up like a cheerleader, and spanking her with the One Paddle of Power ... ?

Her name was Aikinkyu.

There are also elves, wizards (or wyzyrds), shape-shifting cats, lesbians (but no lesbyans), nanotechnology, grimmacing Japanese college students and very fat, bearded Libertarians involved.

Every word of it.

5. My kids are into anime. . .
. . .and one of my oldest daughter's friends is also a "cosplayer" (like the people in the photo).

Cosplayers are a little wierd, but nowhere as wierd as the Extreme Furries, who the daughter's friend told me about. . .

THEY dress as stuffed-animal and/or animla suits. . .and have sex.

THAT wierds ME out: these kids are just the anime equivalents of the nerds wearing Star Trek unioforms of my ancient youth. . .

8. Cosplay is cool, but some of the masquerade cosplayers take
it a bit too far.
