The Pete Rose story. The actor playing Pete looks like Mike Myers in his Wayne's World getup, while the guy playing Bart Giamatti looks like Bud the Chud. (Mind you, so did Bart, but still.) You haven't seen such acting and writing since the last Lifetime movie of the week, but as far as I know, there are no Valerie Bertinelli sightings.

1. They couldn't get Paul Giamatti to play his dad?

From American Splendor, and loads of other films (including the role of "Pig Vomit" in Howard Stern's Private Parts)... that would have added a good dimension to it.

2. Strangely, IMDB doesn't say who's playing Giamatti

Bogdanovich directed, though, which is a fair bit of a surprise. I thought it looked like Rip Torn in unfortunate makeup, but they probably couldn't afford him.
