Is there software that will get rid of CoolWebSearch and other...
slimmy corporate spyware. I don't want to learn how to program my computer before getting rid of them I just want a program that will do it for me. Also, how about we find the slime balls that are creating this spyware and throw them in jail and let out a potsmoker in return?

4. CWShredder
http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-150.shtml

The main site is down, but CWShredder specifically targets CoolWebSearch and its variants.

Visit Spywareinfo.com when it's back up!

6. you have tried un-installing I presume?
Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 11:39 AM by notadmblnd
if you have and you still see it running in your machine... it is because it is a background process..

this is what you need to do.

1. click start on your desktop

2. type in the window that pops up
msconfig then click ok

3. click on the startup tab and scroll down to find
coolwebsearch and deselect the box

4. click apply

5. run deinstall program again

6. reboot

this should get rid of it for you.

on edit: spybot ad adware will not always get rid of these for you because these hidden processes are in use while running these programs.

7. I agree
I use spybot and ad aware in conjunction, and they keep my computer pretty clean.

8. Also switch to Mozilla Firefox....
It's faster and less prone to "accidently" downloading spyware while surfing.

9. I bought a program called Spyhunter.
I downloaded it and don't recall that it was very expensive. I guess I could have saved money with a shareware program -- live and learn. But Spyhunter works well. It catches the spyware programs through a scan -- not as they invade, so you have to run it frequently.

I second your motion for how to deal with those crooks!

10. I used Spybot.....I like Spysweeper better
BUT since I bought both...they seem to find and destroy different adware. I had adware cancer for 6 months...It isn't easy to get rid of they were lurking ( think of freepers) in my registry. McAfee Firewall, virus protection, pop-up stopper and both the adware removal programs...it did take 6 months.they hijacked my home page....slowed my 'puter down to a crawl....if they ever find these guys they should stand trial with penalty of a life sentence...there is nothing humorous about what they do..

It's funny.......DU is the ONLY website were I still get a popup and can't stop it!

11. The CWS attack involves the HOSTS file
CWShredder should get rid of it, and be sure to run Ad Aware and/or Spybot to do away with the rest.

Also, you can customize your HOSTS file to block out the little nasties. Learn more here:
