2. Yes, I am
I dont mind getting out in mid June honest to god, if it means I start school after labor day, so be it. August 23 is too early honestly, its still the dead of summer in my eyes.

15. I do, too.
I'll be welcoming 32 fifth graders tomorrow morning.

So I'll have to ask you "teacher" questions:

1. What are you passionate about learning this year?

2. What are your academic strengths?

3. What academic improvement goals have you set for yourself this year?

That's what my fifth graders will spend prime time on tomorrow!

21. If you're still teaching when these kids
get to college, they will. ;-)

No passive sitting still and writing down what the teacher tells you to in my room. They have to be active participants. They have to think and to make connections. Self-reflection and goal setting is part of the process. Half of this years' group are already really good at that; we've worked together before. The other half will be a little hesitant, but by next spring they'll be surprising themselves.

As for first day responses, they'll happen at all levels, and that is just perfect.

Some will give responses like this: "I can write pretty. I want to do better on my times."

Others will respond like this: "I'm really good with numbers. I'd like to do pre-algebra this year. I know I'm not very patient with my classmates, and I'd like to learn how to be more patient. And I'd really like to learn to do more of my work on the computer this year." (This is a summary of a real conversation I had with one of tomorrow's group last June).

20. What a great group
of interests and talents you have, John!

I think you can make the honor roll. If you keep that goal in front of you from the first day on, you'll do it.

Keep me posted!

Unfortunely for me though, I dont have any past experience with journalism so I dont get a staff spot on the Stinger, our paper.
