Can you and your friends drink $4500 worth of booze in one night?
Bush twins swill vodka, stiff the help

Mayor Michael Bloomberg hailed the Republican National Convention as an economic boon to the city, but it turned out to be a bust for the poor saps stuck serving the tight-fisted Bush girls. According to the New York Post’s Page Six, the debaucherous twins spent all night Wednesday getting trashed at the Manhattan club Avalon, and then stiffed the help. As the Post reports, "They drank $4,500 dollars worth of drinks — bottles and bottles of vodka,' says a club insider. 'Then, having been comped all the alcohol, they left a $48 tip. We thought 1 per cent was kind of outrageous, considering they are the president's daughters.'"

Leave aside what this says about the girls’ respect for working people. These kids and their friends swilled $180 worth of booze per person. A galloping sense of entitlement, apparently, isn’t the only thing that runs in the Bush family.

1. They also ignored NYC's no-smoking law
Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 08:56 PM by plastic_turkeys
You can't smoke in bars anymore, but that didn't stop the twins from demurely lighting up on the dance floor and passing their cigarettes back and forth. The rules don't apply to Bushes.

2. Yes.
But you can sure as hell bet I'd leave a much bigger tip. What a fucking piece of work they are for leaving that little money for a $4500 bill. If that had been me and they'd left me $48, I'd probably be in jail right now, arrested by the secret service for threatening the president's daughters.

9. I hope they don't read this
cuz if they found out they left a whole $48, they will probably demand $45 of it back.

To put this in perspective, we took ten people to dinner, the bill came to $138 (it was Mexican so it was affordable for us) and we left $30 as a tip.

4. My pals and I have.
It was after a wine auction and no one even got drunk. Hell. It was only two bottles from a case a friend bought that we cracked for some celebratory toasts. Needless to say, my pal has far more money than sense, but who am I to turn down a roughly $1,000.00 glass of wine?

8. Back in 1982, five of us drank $2000 worth of booze in one night
I was working for a band that had a residency at a club on the coast. The policy had been that we could drink for free during the night until the club closed at 4AM. After this particular night (cocaine can make a body powerful thirsty), we were limited to 5 comped drinks per night :)

10. Ever heard of drink tickets? Or an one-hour open bar?
Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 09:04 PM by rocknation
Why the hell did they comp that much alcohol for that many people? It wasn't as though the public was invited and they could have made up the difference that way! And if it was meant to be a private party with an open bar, the club should have been paid in advance with 15% on top so the guests wouldn't be required to tip.

11. I'm sure there's a $4,500 bottle of wine out there...
Or even 10 $450 bottles of wine, if I invite a bunch of people over.

That said, I'd tip appropriately. If I wasn't in a position to tip appropriately (and didn't have a benefactor somewhere), I'd stick with the house wine.

the twins..any respectable club owner would, then pay the help what they should have made...one waitress we knew chased down a couple in the parking lot to give them back their bad tip..she told them they must need the money more than her......

22. Yeah!
When I delivered pizza, if customers tipped me less than 50¢, especially for an expensive order ($50 or more), I would leave the assorted denominations of coinage in a neat line on their doorstep (after they closed their door) so that they would find it the next time the door was opened. How passive-aggressive of me!

26. I spent no money on Booze at our Saturday night party in NYC
I couldn't drink that night because of doctor's order (I had been in the hospital with possible appendicitis).

So outside a round of drinks I bought for some folks that night I spent absolutely no money at Rocky Sullivans. Instead they kept giving me free refills of my favorite non-alcholic bar drink: Club Soda with Angastora Bitters.

I was leaving $2-3 for everyone one of those drinks they made me plus I dropped another $20 for tip before I left. I know the rest of the DUers there were also quite generous in their tipping.

I doubt we spent more than $500 for booze in that bar but I can assure you that bartender made a hell of alot more than $48 dollars in tips.

Let's expose these 2 girls as the cheapass drunks that they are - they are the future of our country and I'm :scared:

27. I think the RNC repuke fest killed whatever chances Bush had of winning NY
I watched that piece on 60 minutes last night that Andy Rooney did about the business being done during the RNC. Basically he said all the native NYCers left the city so they didn't have to put up with that mess and pretty much downtown Manhatten was a ghost town.

I'm not sure who made all that money off of the convention but surely it wasn't the folks who got stuck working in the hospitality business that weekend.

Ironically 60 minutes did a piece earlier that night on the porn industry. I'm sure that group made out well with all the porn ordered in the hotel rooms

33. Yes they can and they have,
but we also tip our asses off, 25% or more, no exceptions. If you can't tip you can't go out, most waiters are payed very little and depend on their tips to make end meet.
