Where Do You Shop For Your Clothes?
I mostly shop at abercrombie & fitch, hollister, banana republic, urban outfitters, and occasionally the gap or old navy for something here or there.

Where do you shop for your clothes? :bounce: :hi:

1. Target, mostly
What can I say, I don't really feel the need to spend tons of money on clothes that were made for pennies on the dollar. Especially not after my girlfriend worked for a high priced clothing store and saw firsthand how overpriced their shit was when employees got like 75% discounts.

27. Thrift stores
Sometimes you can find brand-new, name-brand clothes (with the original department-store price tag still attached) at a fraction of the original price. I just went to my local thrift store and bought four pair of jeans in good condition for less than $20. The most expensive pair was $4.25.

30. I love thrifting and now do it for a living.
Once I was at a Goodwill at the time when this rich lady dropped off a box of designer shoes that were "out of season". There were 3 pairs of Manolo Blahniks, 1 pair of Dolce Gabannas, 1 pair of Gucci boots and a pair of Valentino shoes - all in mint condition. They were not my size but I bought them all anyway and sold them all on Ebay for a killing. Goodwill sold me those shoes for $21 each and the boots for $29. I sold each pair for an average of $120. The boots sold for $195.

You can find great stuff at the thrift stores. I buy for myself and for $$Ebay$$. It's alot of fun.

I was at one this summer where I could fill a bag of clothes for $10. With that, I got a black dress that was almost brand new that fit me exactly right and lots of other things.

Awesome.

My entire office work wardrobe is Lands' End. Aside from the price, quality and ift there's no men's cloting store in town. It really stinks that Sears bought them; now I have to pay sales tax as well as shipping when I order.

40. What's wrong with Sears?
Did you know that Sears is going above and beyond what is required by law to support reservists called into active duty?

From Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/sears.asp )

Sears is indeed one of the employers who take additional steps to show support for employees involved in serving their country by guaranteeing the continuance of their civilian pay and benefits. Many other companies -- large and small -- do the same for their workers, but as one of the nation's oldest and largest employers, Sears gets the publicity for setting a prominent example.

where I get all that above labeled stuff for less than Wal-mart charges for their stuff. Not only that, you can barter with the managers for things you think are overpriced. At my age though I'm not that interested in clothes. I have found great buys for garden and home at the above mentioned retailers. They also carry a lot of junk. One must know the difference.

however the situation in South Korea is vastly different when it comes to clothes shopping. So it's easy to hit up the little retailers. Also shop at the big big markets that are open 24/7 (it's fun clothes shopping at 12:30 on a Friday night after a few beers).

25. Yeah, me too
Not only can't I afford to shop in the more expensive places, but I just don't see the point. Why would I pay $30-$50 (or even more) for a pair of jeans when I can get them for $17? I also like getting my shoes for under $20.

I also occasionally hit thrift stores like the Salvation Army or Goodwill, but Wal-Mart is my main source.

15. My favorite is BMoss...
...small chain with absolutely no web presence. They're similar in price to Express and Limited, but the clothes are less "trendy" and more classic in style. Of course, the prices mean I can only shop there during sales. I've also been shopping at Talbot's quite a bit during the past year -- got a gift certificate which took almost a year to use up! I realize that similar clothing is available at Target and such, but their clothes tend not to fit me as well, not to mention falling apart before I get done with them (I tend to buy basics and hang onto them a looong time), and I must admit, in the case of BMoss, I enjoy shopping in a store where just about everything is something I would consider wearing. :-)

42. Just about
I have yet to find anything in the mall that is union made in the U.S. anymore. Check the tags it's all from sweatshops. Even Carhartt has caved and outsourced a lot of their manufacturing, and they were the last holdout among the big names. Carhartt still has about half of their stuff union made in the U.S., and I think Wrangler may have one or two lines of jeans still union made but you have to check the label.

I buy most of it online now. www.unionjeancompany.com www.justiceclothing.com and some others.

Watch for the few good brands like Diamond Cut (jeans), Windjammer (t-shirts), Union Line, Graybear, that are still entirely union made. (I'll bet you won't find them at the mall, if you do buy 'em and thank the store for carrying that brand!)

much in stores. Dress shirts? I need size 18x37, and that will not exist in any bricks-and-mortar establishment. On rare occasions, Nordstrom will have some tall sizes in stock, but by and large I've got to seek them out myself.

I've had pretty good luck online. Have to pay the extra $$$ for it, but they're good quality threads, and they last a long time.

I don't go to the mall. I avoid department stores when possible. I do go to Target for underwear and socks. The rest of my stuff comes from catalogues & on-line shops. I hate shopping, I'd rather avoid the traffic, the parking lot, the lines, and just take care of it right here in my office.

There is a catalog I lost when I moved a few years ago, and I can't remember the name. :grr: They had my favorite stuff for work. (Teacher clothes). I'm still wearing it all, at least the stuff I can stuff myself into. I don't follow fashion trends. If I like it, it's comfortable, and in good shape, I'll wear it for a decade or two. And then when it's not in good shape anymore, I'll wear it on weekends.

I get my shoes from Lane Bryant or Naturalizer, because they sell women's shoes in WW sizes. I have a square foot.

I saw them last week before school started. My son insisted, "mom I don't need anything" ( he could care less about clothes), as I dragged him through several stores. He goes to a small progressive school and they can wear what they want. I usually try to get him a new pair of sneakers every 4-6 months. But he wanted no part of the Converse we used to wear in our "punk" days. :)

And since I care little for fashion, it doesn't bother me to buy off-season. I prefer to buy off-season, it's cheaper and by this time next year, no one will have the pieces I have. I get classic stuff, or if i delve into fads, I wear it all the time, because I like the way it's cut. Not bowing down to the fashion gods is soo refreshing...

56. EBay, QVC, HSN
I have no aversion to buying resale clothing. You can get designer names and quality on EBay for a fraction of the price. With their search, you can narrow the field down to your size and even favorite designer. If I need something dressy that is the first place I check.

QVC and HSN I watch for bargains on things I like on these channels mainly because I know I can get my size.

I go to a mall maybe twice a year.

I get most of my clothes from a store in my neighborhood that sells factory rejects and overstocks at ridiculously low prices. You sometimes have to dig through some tacky stuff to find the quality items, but I have purchased great (all cotton) casual shirts for $5 and pants I can wear to work for $7. They practically give away things like underwear and socks. You would never know that some of them are factory rejects without very close examination -- often a single stitch is slightly crooked. Anything I can't find there I usually order from a catalog.

61. No offense but
:puke:

:) I go wherever black clothes are cheap. But I end up sewing most of mine because the stuff I like is always fiendishly expensive (dressing weird costs money).

65. Target, Kohls, Burlington, Marshalls, TJ Maxx
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 11:14 AM by RatTerrier
I was a Marshall Field kind of guy when I was young and materialistic and wearing Polo and Guess. Now I just don't see the point. Way too expensive, and the value is not there.

It's pretty easy to find the good name brand stuff at Burlington, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc. Kohls has some good private label clothes and are always running big sales. And Target for the basic stuff (t-shirts, socks, and they have some pretty good quality carpenters' jeans and khakis).

I've tried Wal-Mart, but their clothes are terrible. The only things worth anything there are socks and boxers.

66. I'm such a mall person
My favorite places for clothes are NY and Co and Ann Taylor. Unfortunately, the latter is far too expensive most of the time, but they can have good sales.

I also buy most other things from Macy's and Filene's, as they have great sales especially if you use one of their ubiquitous coupons.

At 32, I finally concluded that the Gap and all those types of places are far too young for me. But I do hit Old Navy for cheap t-shirts, tank tops, etc.
