I'm being stalked by Squeeze.
I turn on the radio yesterday, 'Tempted' is on.
I turn on Much More Music, it's the video for 'Another Nail in My Heart'.
I find some old files on my computer and, surprise, surprise there's 'Up the Junction' which makes me cry, because I'm such a bloody sentimentalist.
I go into Starbucks and (oh, the irony) they're playing 'Black Coffee in Bed'.

Oi! Vaguely successful new-wave types! STOP STALKING ME.

That will be all.

4. It wasn't the stalking so much as the Cyndi Lauper mask you wore.
:scared:

2. I was stalked by the Fixx once.
I honestly didn't want it to end in a Ruby Ridge-style shootout, but it did. RIP those guys from the Fixx.

3. That's why they had no other hits after that one.
You know, that one where he sounds like Robert Smith.

Weren't they just Wang Chung in disguise?

11. Every bottom-tier New Wave band was Wang Chung in disguise
Squeeze could have been too. But we'll never know. Because they're all dead. I think. I hope.

13. I don't know. I thought the Blue Nile were dead. But they're back!
You can never escape cinematic Scots gloomsters the Blue Nile. Just 'cause it takes them seven years between records, it doesn't mean they're not dead. No.
:scared:

How about "Stand or Fall"? "Saved By Zero"? "Are We Ourselves?"? And my personal favorite, "Secret Seperation"?

And, yes, I do own their Greatest Hits. So what? :P

20. Every time I hear "Saved By Zero"
I get this mental image of Sergeant Snorkle of Beetle Bailey being saved by "Zero", one of the supporting characters of the comic strip.

Yes, I have "Saved By Zero" on a various artists tape I made in the 1980s.

10. It's surprisingly bland by their standards.
They had had hits in Canada and the UK before that one, thankfully. 'Cool for Cats', 'Take Me, I'm Yours', and the two classic power pop singles 'Another Nail In My Heart' and 'Pulling Mussels From The Shell' were far better singles.

15. Byron!
What about Lizzy Mercier Descloux? We just saw that she died this past spring. :( We loved her version of "Fever." And she was a protege of Patti Smith.

ps they are advertising insurance with "White Wedding." That is just sad.

16. Mussels and Cool for Cats were my favorites
One had to peruse the record stores to find good music back then. All we could get in little-town USA was commercial rock stations. We used to drive an hour to the big city to buy cut outs and promo albums that were given to the radio stations. I think that Squeeze used MTV to break through with "Tempted". MTV was a breath of fresh air in its first years.

18. Jeez, talk about an unlucky band.
Cool for Cats made it to #2 on the UK charts to be held off by Art Garfunkel's abysmal 'Bright Eyes'. Then, two months later, the exact same thing happens to Up The Junction behind 'Are 'Friends' Electric?' by Gary Numan.

22. IT'S STILL HAPPENING!
It's a Starbucks conspiracy. Every time I go in, they're playing Squeeze. What nefarious deal have Difford and Tilbrook come up with the coffee devils? I have to know!
