I did it. I bought a car!
Wow, but the whole car buying experience, particularly haggling, is stressful. Especially so since I'm no good at it, this having been the first time I bought a car at a dealer. I actually walked out at one point and went home since the emotional manipulation by the sales manager was getting a little thick. Not that it was high pressure or sleazy, it was just the common sales tricks.

The car: 2001 Saab 9-5 wagon, white. Low miles, auto, great condition, very fun to drive, $600 under wholesale. Despite my years long lust for a saab it will become my wife's car due to its comfort and superb safety record (she drives our son around most of the time). I will take over the ole 98 Subaru Legacy wagon.

2. Congrats!
I had a 9-5 sedan '00. It was leased and had to return it. I loved it. No problems and it was fun. I'm looking for a wagon now. Was it froma dealer or private?

Best of luck with it!

But it was more a case of love at first sight. I bought a used car from a dealer, who treated me fine. My problem was that as I sat in various Toyotas and Hondas and Nissans and Ford Focuses, I just couldn't generate any enthusiam. But then I spotted a silver two-year old Mazda Protege and asked to check it it out--bells went off! To this day, I'll be driving along and I'll say to myself, "I soooooooooo picked the RIGHT car!"
