What talents do you wish you had?
With apologies to Lynne in modifiying her post:

What talents do you wish you had?

I wish I could play the piano. I always wished I had that talent.

4. Me too.
At least bilingual. I know I can learn, but fluency is tough unless you begin from an early age.

9. I Can Do That
Who can explain why God gives out talents in such odd configurations? I pick up languages totally effortlessly and I've studied a lot of them. It's never done me a bit of good.

My brother has a green thumb. If he plants it, it grows!

Maybe it hasn't so far but with globalization and everything I'm sure your abilities will come in handy. I envy you.

On edit: And I see on your profile that you live in New York. Being able to speak several languages while living in New York sounds like a great thing to me.

17. Actually, It Impresses People
I learned Italian in California, where it isn't as status-y as it is in New York. Italo-Americans who still speak the language bug out when I can understand them.

7. Writing and art.
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 12:42 PM by Beware the Beast Man
I have a ton of creative vision, but, with the exception of music, lack outlets for my ideas. I've had a book idea for years, but I'm not the best or most disciplined writer.

Edited twice for sentence structure. See? Told you I was a bad writer...

re-re-re-re edit: is "butlack" a word???

8. I'm not really looking for talent, just traits
I wish my sense of balance was better.
I wish I could sing on anything resembling key.
I wish I was better at turning acquaintences into friends.

I am trying to turn an interest in humor writing into a talent, though -- I'm kind of scattershot. I can produce good, short pieces on occasion, but I can't do it consistently, or for more than a few hundred words at a time. I'm working on that.

14. For balance
Have you considered martial arts? I was a total klutz, but with practice anyone can improve. Just a suggestion. :)

As for your humor writing, you seem perfect for a humorous editorial every so often... have you sent any in?

15. So I've heard (re: martial arts).
Part of it is inner-ear stuff, but I think I probably could at least get better, if not good.

I have a Web log, and it's soon going to move to my own site, and I'll be including more humor there. I have had one piece (about the morning-after pill) published in a now-defunct alt weekly.

I like the autobiographical/confessional stuff, and it seems to work; I've just got to hone it some more.

Thanks for the suggestions.

13. I wish I could sing
I can carry a tune and people don't run screaming into the night when I sing - even at Karaoke - but I really wish I could sing well, with a good vocal range.

23. I've ALWAYS wanted...
To be athletic. But alas, I have no coordination. It'd be nice to be able to play sports well.
Musically, I can do it all. Play piano, guitar, sing. I can write poetry and stories.
But something like shoot hoops? Nope. Oh, do I wish.

29. Faith Healer (for real)
I'm not a Church goer but I was watching this Faith healer on Television.
I was laughing up a storm. Then I thought what If ? I'd walk down the street
knocking people over with a gently placed hand to the forehead. "ZZzZaP! Praise be to who ever gave me this power, glad to have helped you! Amen!"

I'd insist that my power work on Metal Health issues as well. I might even be
persuaded to heal GWB of his Conservatism.

Or maybe I could just wish for tallent enough to get a job with a Good Healthcare Plan.
