Hey anyone wanna give me advice?
Ok, if anyone recalls last year, I had a chemistry teacher that I couldn't get along with. I had that class early in the morning and with little people I knew, and the teacher didn't like me and liked to pick on me. Here's where I need advice. I can opt out of her class and have a different chem teacher but it would require my schedule change and a chance that I get put in a class where I hardly know anyone. In my class this year, I know a lot of people. This teacher made me feel very uncomfortable last year but I tend to function better in class and enjoy it better with people I know. So what should I do? Should I stay and tough out chemistry with a teacher who made my life miserable last year or try a different teacher but risk screwing up my schedule.

1. Lemme ask
Did the teacher make your life hell as in working your butt into the ground? Teachers like that are worth putting up with. If the teacher demeaned you personally, take a chance with the changed schedule.

4. demeaned personally
She's actually the LD resource teacher for the course, and ironically I was on her roll last year but now I am on the other teacher who seems like a nice woman's roll this year. I may do that, thanks, I like my schedule though and like having friends in class, then again I dont like being treated like crap, there's another thing too, last year I had the class at the beginning of the day so I was often tired and thats why I got a lot of flack, but this year, its third period and thats generally when I function well.

2. I think it would depend
on why the teacher doesn't like you. How could a teacher not like you? ;)

Unless you are a bright student and are smarter than the teacher. In that case, I would switch class. You will learn more. Also, perhaps you will make a few new friends you wouldn't have made before.

5. Oh no its not that I am smarter
Chem is one of my biggest weaknesses, I know, I could meet new people but I would like to spend a class with some of the guys I grew up with in my last year.

3. Change your schedule and get a better teacher
I had an absolutely HORRIBLE chemistry teacher who did nothing but belittle the class. I never learned a damned thing, and to this day I'm pissed at him. I have no grasp of chemistry or physics (I had the same numbnuts for both) and it's a real shame ONE bad teacher could have such a long-term effect.

7. Thanks
I had a hard time learning it too, I flat out didnt get it, and I wasnt a great student, I concede but I really think how I was treated affected me because often times I had thoughts I was a failure, not anymore but they did get there I think in large part because of that teacher.

6. No offense but why do you have to know someone in the class?
for studying?

LEt me say that it was nice of you to refer to them as "little people". Where do you go to school? That many?

:bounce:

Look when I took biology I knew NO ONE in the class and that was fine I strictly memorized what I need to know (funny story about that) so that is what I based my questions on.

As far as her making fun of you-don't take any of her shit. IN CLASS remind her of the Customer-Service Proivider relationship that the two of you have and if she keeps it up go to the dean/department head. There is no need for that and it is totally unprofessional (make sure that is a major part of what you say).

9. I meant few people that I know not like they were smal, I have bad grammar
Why do I have to know someone? hard to explain but it makes class a lot less stressful, and yeah for studying. Ive had classes where I havent known anyone and I did ok but I think last year a lot of why I got frustrated in that class was that I knew few people.

8. I'm just gonna say what I would do if I were in that situation
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 01:58 PM by Champ
Being in a class with a teacher I couldn't get along with made learning difficult and my grades lowered because of the result of that. I was in your situation and chose to opt out, I ended up in a shop class with only 2 people I knew. But for me it was the best option because I ended up making more friends and was 'ok' with the teachers I had. I really don't want to sound like an adult saying this but friends can distract you or that is how was with me and when your in a classroom your only focus should be trying to understand what the teacher is telling you. Me, I wouldn't worry about the friendship aspect and worry about what teacher you can have because learning (which is the important thing) can be very difficult if you have a hard time getting along with the teacher. Hope that helps :)

10. I know friends can distract but I am so damn quiet
I dont know who I would get as a teacher if I switched honestly. Its a team taught class, I should have mentioned and the other teacher seems like a nice person. Thanks.

24. Oh yeah definately
It was a big sigh of relief when I heard my g/f say she hated Bush. The reason is I had no idea of her political affiliation the first 2 weeks I known her. Well you do have all semester to get a chance to conversate with one of them, good luck

11. depends on the situation
If the teacher gets personal with you by insults and offhanded remarks, or makes comments about you to the rest of the class, then you'd be doing yourself a favor by switching. If the teacher seems like he/she is constantly pushing you and seems as if they are never satisfied with the quality of the work you hand in, then stick it out...you'll find later on that learning how to handle things like that is invaluable, especially if you go on to college.

If I were you, I'd quit school now. Man, it sucks going. Quit now, and sit back, living large on your food stamps and welfare, while enjoying some chronic on the side when you have something left over from your welfare windfall.
