Where can I go to get help/therapy for low-cost?
I am having some major anger problems/issues that are costing me my relationship and my health. I know I have to talk to somebody about this because the anger has been building up in me for years and recently, it's starting to come out in scary ways.

I don't like feeling like this but don't know how to stop it or deal.

I have not much money so where I can go to get the help I need?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

1. Most counties have mental health departments.
But they tend to be more-crisis oriented. It's possible that some of them may offer a sliding-scale therapy program.

2. County Health Department
They usually have counselors who work on a sliding scale. Good luck!

3. Or try Catholic Charities.
And no, you don't have to be Catholic to take advantage of what they offer.

4. i have no idea where youre located (rural/urban) but
manyplaces have federal or local health clinics. that would be a start.
also i know there are some therapists that have sliding scale fees

its important that you recognize your anger and are trying to deal with it somehow. thats crucial and im glad you are seeking some help

i truly wish you well and hope you can find what you need. one step at a time....

6. 12 step groups are very helpful
there are groups for codependency and rage. Personally I think that al-anon is the best self-help group in existence (and everybody has an alcoholic in their life to use as a reference). D ; )

8. Hospitals usually have low cost care programs
but you have to ask. Or you could come to one of my anger groups and I dont charge. 115 pm every Tuesday.

Good luck

What you need is there but you need to look

10. Check with your local university
Sometimes they offer services on a sliding scale in order to offer supervised field work to their students. While some might shy away from seeking help with those who are novices in the field, it's important to remember that your sessions with them are very closely monitored by their professors...sometimes filmed, and sometimes observed through special glass.

We've found these services to be extremely helpful.

Good for you for taking the steps you need to make the world a better place for you and your loved ones. Good luck!

11. Check local women's shelters
They can usually refer you to someone with sliding scale rates.

Or try this, maybe... good luck.

12. I work for my County's
Community Mental Health Dept. Our outpatient clinics do have a sliding-scale fee system, so you may end up with a very minimal fee or no fee at all. Also, have you applied for Medicaid? Medicaid may be helpful as far as covering any medications you might be prescribed. This is so great that you are looking into this! Hang in there and know that help is out there for you

19. recommendations
You should try to avoid community mental health centers if at all possible-they are over loaded and you could have a long wait for services. If you are close to a University that has graduate programs in Psych there are often lower cost clinics that offer services of upper division students. Don't be concerned by seeing a student-they are very closely supervised and you will receive excellent care. You also might be a good candidate for group treatment which is generally lower in cost.
