soon, would you get one anyway?

Just in case?

1. It's always best to have a current passport.
Just in case.

2. Get one soon
takes 4 to 6 weeks unless you pay big bucks for the 2 week turn-around.
Of course if Bu$h wins, the world might hold it against all Americans.

3. Yes.
Doesn't hurt and at least you will have a good form of ID. And if something happens you will be prepared.

5. A passport, $10,000 in cash and a pistol
Should be in every person's emergency kit.

If you can find a pen that shoots explosive darts or a watch with a built-in laser, all the better. Throw that in there too.

7. But of course!
Everyone should have a passport, "just in case"!

I took a spontaneous trip to Europe and wouldn't have been able to go with out my trusty passport on hand!

8. I keep one around because I am naturalized.
It's easier to prove my citizenship with my passport than with my naturalization papers.

9. You mean, you were grown organically?
:-)

Passports are a lot easier. It's the mega-trump card of ID.

I prefer using my passport when travelling, instead of a license. I don't know if it really matters, but I figure it keeps the security people from wondering if it's really me, or if my driver's license is real, etc. Also let's 'em know up front I'm a bona fide citizen, not a green carder, illegal, or whatever.

And maybe I'm just paranoid, but the passport also doesn't have an address on it, or anything even to identify what state one lives in.

And as someone else said above, having the passport allows one to go to a foreign if and when an opportunity arises. I had a chance to go to Germany when I was in college - a sort of "we go in a few days, you in?" - and I had no passport, and there was no way I was gonna get one in the couple days of lead-time I had. Bummers.

10. I was raised from a lump of shit, like a mushroom.
:7

My last passport went unused in the 10 years I had it. I have only used my current one as a backup when crossing the Mexican border. But, it's nice to know I can jet overseas at a moments notice. Yeah, a passport has a serious air of legitimacy.

11. Or just travel with a jedi
"You don't need to see his identification."

:-)

Wow, raised from a lump of shit. That's cool. Especially cool that no pesticides or other chemicals were used on you, too.

14. I figure it would be hard to locate the Jedi yourself.
So, I figure if you are worthy of the Jedi, he or she announces him/herself to you.

16. Ah, I think I have it
You're assuming an initial jedi-less state for the traveller; and that, if the traveller is worthy, a jedi will show up before he/she gets to security in order to help usher them through using (trademarked, copyrighted, and patented) Jedi mind tricks.

I was going on the assumption of an initial jedi-positive state.

Hence the confusion. Our foundations differed, causing an immediate catastrophic success of communication.

i really wish we had jedis. I wish *I* were a jedi. Can't tell you how many times I've put my hand out in the hopes that the thing I wanted, which was across the room or on the floor, etc., would be born to me via the wondrous and mystical/magical mechinations of the Force. Damn, I say. Damn that I cannot do so. But I keep trying. And I also often think that, if it ever works, I'll probably shit my pants in terror.

You never can tell when you might win the lotto and get a phone call from Viggo Mortenson inviting you to spend the weekend on a beach in Tahiti.
