How can someone be this stupid?
I just saw the Tonight Show. Jay was doing a 'Jay Walking' segment. He was asking people about holidays/special days. I'll paraphrase the conversation.

Jay: When is election day?

Dumb Guy: Sometime in October

Jay: Do we have an election this year?

DG: No, next year.

Jay: So when are you going to vote?

DG: Next year.

Jay: What day?

DG: October 15th, next year.

Jay: You'll be the only one.

This guy was 35-40. I'm Canadian, and I know that your elections are on the first Tuesday in November. Also, how can anyone who is paying the smallest amount of attention to the world around them, not know that there is an election this year? Dumb Guy shouldn't even be allowed to vote. JMHO

1. What can I say?
home-schooled?

You're close - our elections are USUALLY on the first Tuesday in November, but the actual day is "the tuesday immediately following the first Monday in November". Thus, if November 1st is a Tuesday, the election is held November 8th.

November 1st is All Saints Day, so the election doesn't ever fall on the 1st.

5. My bad
My assumption was based on observation, not actual study. I checked, November 1st landing on a Tuesday during an election year has only happened once in my lifetime (1988.) Not bad for a foreigner. Thanks for the info.

4. He is old enough to know better.
Saturday, some girls washed my car for a high school fund raiser.

I have a Kerry bumper sticker, and one that says "Bush/Cheney: Four More Wars."

I had to explain that the latter bumper sticker was sarcastic.

Then one of them said to me, "Bush is a Republican, right?"

9. Hey!!!...why are you Canadians intercepting our television signals?!?
...Are you paying for it?
Are you the least bit familiar with the basis of western capitalism?

Be good or we'll beam Fox™ News your way.

11. Canada started as a business venture
Initially, people came here to get a piece of the fur trade action. The Hudson's Bay Company is the oldest continually operating business in the world, so I've heard. (Don't quote me though, I haven't fact checked.) So yes, we know about capitalism.

Not only do we intercept your television signals, but if the same show is appearing on a Canadian network (at the same time) we simulcast the Canadian broadcast on the American channel so that we get Canadian commercials not your Yankee ones.

Extra info at no extra charge: How do you tell the difference between a Canadian broadcast and an American one? We're a bit more liberal with language up here. For instance, the Sopranos is shown on network TV and it is not 'bleeped.' Also, you can always spot the local sitcom. We have a reputation for being funny, but you couldn't prove it from our sitcoms.

As in...

"Yeah. Go ahead and laugh. I know you better than you dream, mofos. And you don't know me at all."
