Army post (Ft. Carson) to deliberately injure animals -experiment
http://www.click2houston.com/news/3714265/detail.html

They are raising a herd of goats to later this month deliberately injure so they can experiment treating their wounds and injuries.

There is a phony question in their poll re: saving life of a soldier. No proof this will happen. Reminds me of the time the major Detroit car manufacturers used live animals for test crash experiments a few years ago.

There has to be a better way, folks. Why bring suffering to God's poor innocent creatures - what did they do to get involved in this sick "war on terror?" There are non-bloody alternatives involving electrodes but they seem almost as sickening to me.

I know you hawks will flame me but this is just one simple instance of unnecessary cruelty and violence in this world. And its preventable.

2. Bring them to Rio
Plenty of bullet wound victims. We could use the help.

But NOOOOOOOO, can't risk helping dark-skinned people, now, can we?

6. Sorry friend, but you are wrong on so many counts
First of all, technology has come a long way since the days of yore, when one needed to practice on a live animal. There are many synthetics that mimic the reaction of human flesh and bone. Also, working on an animal is foolish, because they aren't human, and don't react like a human. Body shape is different, organ placement is different, reaction to treatments is different.

Sorry, but this is just justification for sadism.

4. It gets worse:
From article: "After the animals are treated by Army medics, they will be killed and cremated."

I hope they don't forget to scrap that part of the training when they're in the battlefield.

7. Necessary evil.
The concept that you can test this kind of thing on computers is false.

There's really no other way.

People eat goats. I see no reason why they shouldn't be used for an even better purpose.

10. I saw it. Sounds like the Tuskegee Experiment.
It's no good. It's not a controlled experiment. And it could withhold vital, life-saving treatments of human beings in favor of experimental and far riskier procedures, and without the patients consent.

Kind of sad that you even suggested it.

11. Experimental procedures? The article doesn't suggest that.

More like plain old emergency treatment, of the kind one sees at the ERs of hospitals in violent neighborhoods.

Edit: double-checked. Confirmed, the article says "exercise" and "training", not "experiment".

12. Sorry, read the OP, not the article.
That is disturbing.

9. Oh boy, I am going to notify my animal rights and rescue
groups about this. This little experiment may not happen.
