I've just been asked to try marijuana!
Which was quite a surprise.

Marijuana may have its good uses and that we live in a corrupt society, but I don't want to get associated with people who sell it. (my friend only uses it once or twice a week. That itself I have no problem with except that users get a worse treatment than pushers.)

I won't smoke anything. For one thing, I've asthma and other problems as it is.

Maybe it would be fun. I don't know. But I don't think it would be healthy for me.

I think he needs to find a better substitute for his anxiety problem. In a sane society, this wouldn't be an issue as the benefits of the plant are well known. But in this "drug war" society where they are going after someting less malignant than the socially acceptable alcohol, I've another reason to not get involved. (though even if it was legal and all that, the health of my lungs is enough for me to say 'no').

What would you do?

Thanks.

1. Just say "No Thanks"
that's what I say. It would be nice if he could get into some meditative music-there's a lot on the internet, and it can really help reduce stress.

3. I've read it helps asthma
I'm not sure how true that is. I have asthma and I could never smoke a cigarette without having a major attack. I've had pot a few times and was just fine. It's not big deal, but I would be careful about when and who you do it around.

4. asthma is not a reason not to
in fact, it's quite the opposite. do the research.

you can make your own decisions but make sure they are not made out of ignorance or fear. The fact of the matter is that you don't want to try it, so you shouldn't because the set and setting are not there for you to enjoy it.

20. Slight disagreement...
... back when I was a whippersnapper I enjoyed the herb in its many forms, probably too much. :)

I made some wicked good cookies and brownies. The high you get from eating it is quite different IMHO than smoking. It's really not the same thing.

6. I agree with you
I think there are alot more serious issues than smoking a joint, health permitting, like crack and meth. I dont advocate drug use but we need to end this war on drugs; its killing people.

I would have refused to smoke also. I smoked a bit when I was younger but thats yesterday. A cold beer or a couple fingers of scotch will suit me just fine.

End the damn drug war, save lives, save communities, save money, save joe the postman who smokes a joint on the weekend both his job and a stretch in the slammer.

7. Well, I tried it
I was asked if I wanted to try it when I was 24 years old by my best friend, a long time pot smoker. He gave me a joint and I asked my husband to smoke it with me. Then my eyes were opened. Hmm, I never realized what this sounds like.
Anyway, it is fairly safe. No one has ever died from it. You certainly won't become addicted the first time if ever. There is no harm at looking at it as a one time learning experience if you don't want it to become part of your life, but want to try it. You don't even have to smoke very much if you don't want to. If it is done in a private home, there is very little chance that the police will suddenly burst in and arrest you and your friend.
If you and your friend stay aquainted and he has a regular supplier, you won't have to deal with dealers even if you decide that you want to smoke a couple times per week like your friend. Things might be different where you are from, but most dealers around here are not sleazy people who stand on street corners. That's all I'll say about that for now.
If your friend only smokes a couple times per week, which I assume he can afford, doesn't act like Beavis or Butthead, and doesn't smoke in public I wouldn't worry about his pot smoking. My mother-in-law has been addicted to minor tranquilizers for decades and takes multiple Xanax per day. Although the medical establishment might permit that, it doesn't mean that is healthier.
If you are curious, try it. Of course, if it is likely you'll be drug tested at work, I'd recommend against it though. It would suck to get fired or halled into treatment when you after your first and only time using it.

8. Quit being such a wuss.
Smoke it. You only go around once in this world, you might as well see what it has to offer.

I had opportunities to try it but I didn't until I was twenty. I wish I had tried it earlier.

Some day you're going to be an old man and nobody's going to be offering you any marijuana anymore and you'll regret not having more fun in your youth.

Not trying it would be like never trying foreign food because you're worried it might be too spicy.

19. I agree
What would you say to someone your age who was offered an alcoholic beverage who had never tried it before? It is safer than that both in terms of your immediate and the risk that you will develop a serious habit . Yes, it is illegal, but if you are in a private home and your friend has some and is offering it to you, you don't have to worry about that really either.

14. I've never tried marijuana (m)
I had chronic bronchitis and pnemonia when I was a kid due to second-hand smoke, so I've always shyed away from smoking anything.

But, when marijuana becomes legally available in an herbal tea, I will definitely try it :) I have confidence that it will happen someday.

16. pot is good for asthma.
pot works as a bronchial dilator, and actually used to be prescribed to asthmatics.(nicotine, conversely- acts as a vascular constrictor).

toke up.

21. I am an avid supporter of leagalization of marijana...however...
It is not something you NEED to do. It is a harmless drug for 99% of those who partake of it. I have used it for decades... and when I quit... I quit.. simple as that... no cravings.. no need to find the next joint. In fact it was as though I never had used it.

So don't worry about it... if you have asthma.. best not to try it.. it can be harsh on the lungs. My wife has asthma and she also used to use it occasionally...sometimes it was hard on her lungs.

With that... just say no!

:Kick:

22. I love weed. Smoked it for years.
I have a masters, own a home, and even work on a regular basis. I find the "apathetic pothead" caricature to be insulting. I'm an adult, alcohol is not for me. Why can't I do something I enjoy that doesn't hurt anyone else? But I digress.

There's nothing wrong with marijuana in and of itself. But if you feel reluctant, don't. You won't enjoy it.

29. ...uhh, congratulations? oh, no wait, oh dear god no! turn it down!
that stuff is illegal!!! :D

ha ha ha

dude, do what you wanna do, just be aware of what you are jumping into before you do it.

sounds like you are unsure, yet questioning. go find out more about the drug (and others) and then make up your own mind. the information is not gonna kill you and you'll be left with a more comfortable position on the topic. whether you do or don't will be made with an informed and at peace mind, which is a wonderful thing.

and if you do, put yourself in a comfortable position, something you'd really like. and hang around people you feel comfortable with. someone said it here, but it needs to be said again, set and setting are quite important for the experience. wouldn't smoke cigarettes or drink booze around the wrong set and setting, would you? same with this... don't smoke up around the local temperance club (unless it's funny)

30. The asthma won't be a factor, but your "other problems" might
If among them are tendencies to be "square" and "paranoid", you should probably abstain.

If all you can think about are the thousands of reasons you shouldn't be doing such a thing, then forget it.

If you're interested in trying something new, and have minimal hangups, then go for it, as you will probably enjoy the experience.

31. Only for legal reasons, so much for a 'free country'
If there wasn't a legal issue (stupid as it is), I'd puff up with the best of them. We only live once and if I died by trying something not unpleasant, oh well. :-) But it's not legal and has a bogus stigma attached to it.

Look. You recognize that the law is wrong. If you know the law is wrong, then it's a moral duty to break it. Especially if it's the only thing keeping you from doing something that you want to do.

34. No one has to find out
If you smoke it in a private home, you are not going to get arrested. You don't have to tell your family or non pot using friends about it.
I don't mean to pick on you for your sexuality, but in some states gay sex is or was illegal in the recent past. Many people attatch a stigma to homosexuality. That does not stop you from having sex with people who you are attracted to or revealing to people that you are gay. I realize that homosexuality is part of who you are and stronger than the urge to smoke pot, which none of us would desire if we were not made aware of it. I am just saying that just because something is illegal and has a stigma doesn't make it bad or something that you shouldn't experience for those reasons alone. Smoking once does not by any means committ you to be a regular pot smoker either.
I don't mean to be a pusher or anything. You should make your own decisions. You did write a thread asking you for advice though. I am just addressing your concerns.
