Poll question: Best mafia movie: Godfather, Godfather II, or Goodfellas?
I have to go w/ Godfather, Part 2 by a razor-thin margin...

2. Both "Godfather" films are masterpieces, but...
...for my money, "Goodfellas" is the best mob movie hands-down.

4. IMHO, Godfather II is the best film (any category) ever made.

6. Don't forget 'Mean Streets'
although I don't think it was as good as the Godfather I or II.

7. Edge to GF II....
...Despite no Brando or Jimmy Caan. Pacino is so, so great in that film---it's his best work (although I LOVE "Dog Day Afternoon" and Al in it). And who won the best actor Oscar that year? That's right: Art Carney. Also, the flashback story with a young, lean De Niro is awesome. Christ, that scene where he clambers over the rooftops in Little Italy to get ahead of Fallucci, then wraps his gun in the towel before shooting him (and the towel catches on fire from the muzzle blast)? Rock and ROLL, man! Good, good shit.

"He was stupid. I was lucky. I will visit him soon. "
--Michael Corleone

I watched the new DVD release of "Goodfellas" last week. Third or fourth time I saw the film, and frankly I don't know that I have to see it again. Yes, it's great filmmaking, and yet...not an epic. Not endlessly entrancing and seductive like GF II, which I doubt I'll ever tire of.
