Poll question: Who will Steinbrenner hire when he fires Torre?
I'm just being funny; the probability is that even if the Yankees fail to buy-- I mean win another championship, that George will have the sense not to ditch Torre. I wouldn't want to be Brian Cashman in that case, though.

Run with it; use the reply function for Other votes (assuming anybody looks at this at all)

1. He'll stun New England
He'll hire Grady Little, with Jimy Williams as his bench coach.

4. Thought about putting him on, but it seemed a little too obvious
also considered putting on Ted Williams' head; what's a little impossibility between friends?

between Yogi and Steinbrenner; forget why. Hey, there's always Zim!:)

Edit: According to news stories, they buried the hatchet in 1999. But still.

12. losing 22-0 to the indians 10 times in a row wuold be
It is great that the indians did that but for it to be a real struggle they would have to do that consistently, and look at the standings, those mofos are still in first place.

13. You realize that
the Yankees haven't "bought" a championship for 4 years, right? People seem to convienently leave out that fact a lot...

14. Was that for lack of trying?
I'd think that having the highest payroll every year and falling short would be an even greater indictment. Still, as long as Angelos is in the game, George can't be the worst owner in this regard.

16. So where were you
all those years in the late 90s when the Red Sox and the Dodgers (at least you referenced the Orioles) were competing for the crown of spending the most money?

It's actually only been in the last few years that the Yankees have had the highest payroll, and it wasn't even until this season that they had the highest paid player (keeping in mind that Texas is paying about 1/2 of A-Rod's contract.)

My point is that criticism of the Yankees' payroll, while not totally wrong, often seems to me to be somewhat akin to the freeper talking points--oft repeated and not very well articulated or understood.

Note: I am not accusing you of being a freeper! :-)
