Puppy Shoots Man. There is a god for puppies.

"A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver's trigger.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.

Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn't find them a home, according to the sheriff's office.

On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies -- one in his arms and another in his left hand -- when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff's report said."

that was ALL about the God of Puppies!!!!

So I wonder if they found homes for them!

I see in the article he managed to kill three of them first. Damn. But the other four are up for adoption. Good.

4. Tell me about it.
Unfortunately that is where I live, and am stuck in this bunch of folks who wear blinders and just follow down the blind alley.

5. I saw those puppies on the news. They are darling. They look like little
foxes, all big bellies and big ears. The pup should have aimed higher.

6. Why is that considered felony animal cruelty?
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 06:19 PM by DemBones DemBones
It's illegal to simply kill an animal that belongs to you? (I know PETA says humans can't own animals but I'm talking about laws here.) I would think felony animal cruelty would be, well, crueler, more sadistic.

I'm not for killing anything but unwanted animals taken to an animal shelter are all too frequently put to death after a period of (possibly) distress at being in a large building with many other animals. It could be argued that a person with puppies or kittens he can't keep and can't find homes for would be more merciful if he killed them himself. That is, unless execution by gunshot or drowning is shown to be worse than the gas chamber at the animal shelter. I think there's some suffering with all three methods.

Just wondering what others know about these laws. (Also wondering why the thread was moved out of the lounge as it's not a second amendment issue.) No flames, please, we have taken many strays to the shelter but always try (often with success) to find them a home first. We live in the country and people bring unwanted pets out here and dump them off, figuring they'll find a home, which is rough on us animal lovers. We've had to buy two Have-a-heart traps to deal with catching and transporting stray cats (dogs are easier to befriend and will then hop into the truck.) And it's sad to take any animal to the shelter, "humane euthanasia" or not. Spaying and neutering is the only answer to this problem. (And should be extended to include people who are the type who would dump an unwanted pet.) ;-)

7. Just a little more to get you upset
This article below is from the same area (Pensacola) even though the killings took place in Alabama.

http://www.gulfcoastgreyhounds.org/SpecialNews.htm

During the last 40 years, Robert Rhodes figures he has shot and buried maybe 2,000 greyhounds on his 18-acre farm in Lillian, Ala.

``I guess there are laws against it, but I haven't read those books, so I don't know,'' said Rhodes, 68.
