5. Watching sports is entertaining but the outcome only affects
the participants and those who bet on the games. For everyone else, once the game is over, it makes no difference who won.

Politics is a lot different. The outcome of the presidential race will affect the entire world, and for at least a generation.

Enjoy the game, but don't waste too much time on sports before Nov. 2. We need all the help we can get this time!

8. Right, I quit watching sports about 10 years ago, except for
the occasional championship game. Figured I was spending too much time on something that was not really important.

This was not long after seeing Walter Cronkite interviewed at the Super Bowl. The media hype was so bad that year that they ran completely out of stories and started interviewing each other. Walter was asked what he was doing at a sporting event. He said "I have been present at many events in recent history, but this is the biggest event I have ever attended that is completely meaningless."

That kind of got me thinking. Now, I am really cynical about especially pro sports. They are just vastly overpaid and generally over-sized men playing a kids game. I don't need to support their indulgent life style. The people who really advance the well being of mankind are scientists and engineers, and they don't get much recognition and little more than average pay.

9. well
i pay no attention to pro sports, except in a kind of a "hey, thats cool" way, like with the Crew's current success. but theres something about college sports that gets me (probably due to my student status lol), and the sense of tradition. you don't get that with pro teams
