I am amazed! My dogs LOVE the two kittens I found!
I was worried about bring the kittens home but I couldn't leave them by the side of the road. I brought them home and kept them in a pet carrier overnight. After the required barking and growling my eldest male spent the night asleep in front of the carrier. I let the two out the next day and to my suprise, all six dogs treat them like new puppies. They are licking them and seem eager to find the kittens after coming back inside the house. While Buddy won't allow any of the dogs to eat before him or with him, he has no problem sharing his meal with the kittens. Its almost as if he sees the things as HIS new pets.
I was going to find them a good home but it seems there is no need now. I am concerned because I now have 8 furry friends. I just hope I don't end up like those people you read about in the newspaper! (Man found with 200 dogs living in squalor)

3. Dogs and cats will often get along well
If raised together when one or both are young. We had a young female Beagle dog when I got a kitten as a teenager and those two played together and even whe they grew old they would touch noses to greet each other every day of their lives.

The dog teased another cat I had though, an older female, I think that she wanted to play with the cat and teased her because she wouldn't.

5. Reminds me of my dog when I was a kid
My best friend and I used to rescue kittens all the time. I'd bring them home and feed them up and my dog would momma them for a while before I found them a good home. My favorite image of her was her laying on the living room floor asleep with a kitten curled up on top of her also asleep. :)

7. Awww, sounds so sweet to me.
Why not keep the kitties? You have lots of baby sitters for them! I am not far behind. I have one pooch and 5 cats! I keep rescuing stay cats then I get too attached to give them away! You were very kind to rescue the kitties.

12. I have to keep them now.
I already named them. Miss Kitty and Festus (from gunsmoke). It would break buddy's heart if they left so I will keep them. I guess I am about to help put my Vet's son in private school huh?

15. I learned that with Abbott - once you name them, they're yours
When I first found Abbott by the dumpsters I did not want to name him. However, after a week, I came up with that name because I was reading the autobiography of Abbie Hoffman. Once I named him Abbott, he was mine no matter what

8. I recently saw a TV show about about weird animal alliances
A dog trying to nurse a bird, a cat protecting a mouse from other cats. The only explanation seems to be that they just don't know any better!

9. Were they licking them or just seeing what they tasted like? :)
The first time I saw Quinn (the older cat) lick Althea (the younger). I couldn't figure out if he was sampling the flavor for a later snack, or actually grooming her :)

14. Dogs tend to be more curious about cats than antagonistic.
My dogs just love my cats. And Tonka likes to make a break for it sometimes and run out the backdoor and the dogs usually herd him back to the house.

16. Same Here
My beastie is very protective of the cats. When i trim claws on the kitties, he needs to be calmed down. When i first start, they fuss a bit, and he gets all worked up because they're crying. And that's ME he's getting upset with!

Once he realizes everything is ok, he just sits and watches, but he even is willing to stand up for his little pals when it's me doing the work. They hang out together all the time, and the cats are 8 % 9 pounds, and he's 110.

17. You sound like me! I have four here and one in another home
I support. (Plus their caretakers when I travel which is always.) But yes dogs and cats live happily together. I plan on adding to my menagerie when I can swing it. (all of them rescued from horrors)

18. My dog and cat are friends
I had my cat first, with my old dog. The kitten was only weeks old, and Rosie was 10. Rosie treated Miranda like her baby from the beginning and they really loved each other. When Rosie died, I got Katie from the Humane Society. It took some time for Miranda to come around, as Katie was a puppy and had tons of energy. Once she calmed down, they started to get along. Now, Katie is 6, Miranda 8, and they are buddies. They play together-Miranda likes to grab Katies snout with her paws and pull her down. Katie lets her jump on her face and lick it. It's all very cute.

Animals can be very protective and loving with each other. Buddy sounds like a fun dog.
