Do you save insects from impending doom?
I found a BIG Praying Mantis in the parking lot at work today. I scooped it up with sheet of paper and brought it to the back by the trees.

1. Any insect that eats other insects, yes.
And worms - I will try to put them back onto moist dirt if they are stuck on pavement or something.

But for pest insects - NO FRIGGEN WAY. Oh I may show some compassion and put them out of their misery, but that's about it!

ladybugs too. Worms, I do the same, what can be better for the earth than worms? Even flies, if they get in the house, I don't swat them. I catch them and put them outside. Put a glass over them, take a newspaper, slide it under the glass and put them back outside where they belong.

14. Flies = germs
Since they eat & lay their eggs on dead things & excrement, flies can be carrying quite a collection of nasty bacteria on them. I don't mind swatting them whenever I see one!

2. I'll save an animal like that, if convenient.
Most bugs, though, I'll either squash or ignore.

6. my son takes the little centipede type things
that crawl into the house and takes them outside. Roly polies too.
Spiders and ants in the house get the quick kill treatment.

Big things like that guy (the mantis) would definitely get our good treatment (we even watch them on our back porch)

10. We threw a wolf spider out the cat door the other night.
Mr. Nownow was going to step on it, but I stopped him. "They kill pretty much every insect but themselves, let's give him a break," I said.

Last night, he pointed to something on the floor.

"Is that dead?" he asked.

The cats had killed the spider we threw out into their run and brought it back in the house.

I guess it gave the katydids a break. They were bringing in one or two a night, for a while, there.

11. Ever since I read about a kamakazi pilot who failed to die... (he came
home to live in total disgrace but vowed to never kill another living thing) I never kill anything except mosquitos (nile virus) and most of the time roaches.

15. Sometimes.
With flies, I find that if I open the door, they'll be attracted to the light coming from the screen door and I can just let them out. With spiders, I'll often put them outside too, but sometimes they get accidentally squished in the process. Ants and most other things must always die.
