Ernie Ball, Famed Maker of Rock Guitar Strings, Dead at 74

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Ernie Ball has died. He was a pioneer maker of rock 'n' roll guitar strings used by legions of artists from the Rolling Stones to Merle Travis. Ball was 74.

His strings have nearly been been fixtures in my life for something like 20 yrs now...

The uniformity of the product from pack to pack is incredible.

2. My first husband was a sound engineer.

He also did guitar setups for his friends to make a few bucks. I remember Dean Markley and Ernie Ball packs all over the house, the whole time we were together. The guys who played 12-strings, especially, liked them.
