Help!! How to get damp, musky smell out of carpet.....
I had to defrost my fridge (the old fashioned way, it's an old fridge) and unfortunately, it leaked into my carpet (which is STILL drying!!!)

how to get that musky smell OUT (naturally, no chemicals, have to think of the pets!!!) and water stain out.

:(

1. Baking soda
can help with odors.

3. I poured that on, and tried to vacuum most of it out...
but it's still a little wet and the baking soda (some of it) has stuck.....

8. Let the soda dry
before you vacuum. It should take up the odor from the carpet as the carpet dries.

4. My brother was manager for a
large apartment complex and he used coffee grounds to get the smell out of carpets. I'm not sure how long it took though. I would think a couple of days.

9. yikes,
the carpet guy who had to replace ALL of the carpets in our house when we moved in said that any powder is the WORST thing to use. No matter how much vaccuuming you do, some of it remains in and under the carpet and absorbs moisture. :puke:

How 'bout "Nature's Miracle" which is safe to use around pets - in fact you can buy it at pet shops.

2. you have carpet under your fridge??
rip it up and put down some nice ceramic tiles.

carpeting has no business being anywhere near the fridge.

10. my sons brothers had HORRIBLE ear infections and respiratory infections
for years one lost 3/4 of his hearing... then they took out the carpet to replace it to sell the house and found Green Mold solid in the old 'horse hair'matting... they had to have Hazmat people take it out in sealed barrels.. if it had been black mold/aspergilus.. it might have killed them. it will kill people that have diabetes.

7. You need to call a company that

specifically handles water damage. You probably need to go to the apartment manager for help.

11. what I understand from people when this happens
is once the mold is in the carpet, toss it. I am serious. You'll never get the mold out. This is from many flood victims, even if it's clean water and that mold smell starts, dump it.

12. I'd talk to a company
that specializes in crime-scene cleanup. Cops, firemen or paramedics would probably know of who does in your area. They'd know how to get rid of odors like that.
