Poll question: Will the Red Sox catch the Yankees and win the AL East?
2 games left, 6 of them head-to-head matchups, the Sox are leading the season series 8-5, and are only 2 1/2 games back.

3. God I hope so.
I'm not a baseball fan by any stretch of the imagination. My husband's very long work commute goes through the Bronx and it takes him longer to get home whenever the Yankees play. I'm in favor of any team that can shorten the Yankees season. If its the Sox, so be it. If it keeps you out of wearing a bunny suit while serving tequila, so be it. Or did you only make the bet on the Pats?

7. Good.
I for one would read the fine print on that bet. By bunny suit, are we talking Bugs or Playboy? Remember, there are two kinds of bunny suits. You would look equally ridiculous in both.

5. You wish!
:P

I don't think they'll catch the Yankees. The Sox are only 2.5 games behind, but I think the Yanks can hold out...

I hope they can anyway.

6. if you guys can't beat us, how do you expect to win in the playoffs
How sweet it was to beat the yankees last night, I haven't tasted playoff joy since I was 10 :( wah, wah but everytime the yankees lose, it means somethin is happenin right. If you guys get swept by a third place team, my birdies, and the sox continue to win, that I must say puts the yanks a half game ahead only but you should also be grateful to the birds because we've had boston in our hands this year despite being medicore.

8. Baltimore plays kingmaker in the AL East this year
Two more games against the Yanks, eight more against the Sox. Both teams they've played really really well this year.

9. If only we hadnt had that 12 game slide
 just why, I was so optimistic when it started to happen. Sorry we've been hard on you guys, I like the BoSox better than the yankees because the BoSox though they've beaten us bad in the past have never resorted to cheap tactics to beat us, *cough Jeffrey Meier* oh and did I mention, I hate the Yankees because I was brought up that way. Yeah we've done good against both, we should have a winning record though.

11. Uh,John,the Yankees have been known to be successful in the playoffs.
I was a big Yankees fan when I was a kid.We didn't have major league ball in Dallas and the Yankees were REALLY America's team;you could see them every Saturday and they were always guaranteed to please.

Became a Rangers fan when they arrived and suffered through many seasons of mediocrity at best and downright misery at worst.Well, when the Smirking crowd greeter came aboard I no longer felt good about rooting for the Rangers(I was way ahead of most DUers,I hated this guy before he even was considering a run for Texas governor). When they made no effort to keep Pudge that was it for me.

So here you have the irony of a pure dee white trash Southern boy as a Yankees fan.Go figure.

16. I meant as of late
and yes they have been struggling in recent years, of course they're a fucking dynasty. no its actually been three straight years. I am wrong I know but lets face the yankees arent what they were from 1996-2000, when they only didnt win the series once.

15. and I still hate them for 1996
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 02:49 PM by JohnKleeb
Jeff Meier I still would like to give a piece of my mind and Richie Garcia too. I just hope to see more orioles yankee whoppings like last night. Sigh if only, if only Tarasco hadn't been freaked with, then we would have won game two, and then gone back to the best city in America and would have kept that MO going, and we would be talking about the orioles dynasty now :), oh and the Yankees would be in last place :D. Ok, I am an idealistic dreamer, I admit it, and Ive hated the yankees forever, and I am bitter. Pout but can you really blame me. Oh and Maggie, kudos to you for at least being loyal, you're not fair weathered like some people I know, when teams start a suckin, they abandon, youre at least loyal like a true fan.

The Arizona Diamondbacks won the 2001 Series against the Yanks.

In the 21st century the Yanks are BIG ZEROES. :D

25. it should have been the Mariners in 2001
The only team besides the 1906 Cubs to win 116 games in the regular season. x( Dammit all... but it was a great season. :-)

27. I remember that year
Though we nearly swept the Mariners in the 1997 ACLS and they've beat us in some great games, I have no hatred of them, I loved that game back in 1996, when Chris Hoilies, full out, two out, bases loaded, down by 3 runs hits a grand slam to end the game. It was amazing to see. I would love to see the yankees damned in a simliar fashion. ABY folks, Anyone But the Yankees.

30. Thats been my motto for awhile now
Ive always been an american league fan but if its the yankees and a NL team, I'll go for the NL team, bah it took me 10 years to realize that yankee fans weren't bad people. Sigh that stupid kid in right field and how the new york media loved him.

19. It's because of the Yankee curse of 2001...

almost all the Yankee fans said they were owed the World Series because of SEP-11-2001. Because of THAT self-centered egotistically greedy sick attitude (and like the Red Sox curse of 1918 did), they will go as long as the Red Sox have gone without another World Series win.

Like last year, there is another chance for the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox to play each other in the World Series...

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago Cubs.

I first predicted this in early August, and I am sticking with it.

33. well . . . as a Yankee fan . . . and a former Red Sox fan . . .
(lived in Massachusetts for 15 years) . . . my honest opinion is that the Yanks just don't have the pitching to go all the way this year . . . I also think that the Sox can take them in a head-to-head series . . . I'll still root for Bombers, but if they do indeed go down, I'd love to see the Sox go all the way . . . I have a lot of friends up in New England who are long-suffering fans and deserve to see that happen at least once before they die . . .

of course, my fantasy remains a Yankees/Astros series, with the Astros winning 4 games to 3 . . . Clemens gets two of the wins, Pettitte gets the other two, and they share the MVP . . . I know it's heresy for a Yankee fan, but I just think it would be such a fun story, what with Steinbrenner's head exploding on national television and all . . . :)
