Fox Catches Dave "Insomniac" Attell for New Comedy Deal

I think stand-up and "Insomniac" are what Dave does best...CANNOT see him in a sitcom if it's even the least bit "traditional."



LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Comedy Central veteran Dave Attell is coming to network television.

The seasoned comedian, best known for his Comedy Central series "Insomniac With Dave Attell," has signed a development deal with Fox Broadcasting Co. and sister studio 20th Century Fox TV to star in a sitcom.

"He is quite simply one of the funniest people on the planet," said Marcia Shulman, Fox's executive vp casting. "He has a very specific point of view, he is really funny, very edgy, has a huge following that cuts across all age groups, and it's really a no-brainer for Fox."

Given his writing background on "Insomniac" and NBC's "Saturday Night Live," it is possible that Attell would be involved in the development/writing of his starring vehicle.

3. The "Insomniac" Japan special was great.

Dave just isn't a "sitcom" guy. I can't see him playing a single-dad stand-up comedian with a "rebellious teenage son" or something like that...all of the cliches...but, he's got to work, so here's wishing him the best!

4. Imagine the story lines...

Dave hits on junior's new fourteen year old girl friend. After a
brief affair, she runs away to California where she ends up in a
Max "Hardcore" Steiner video, dad and junior have a long heart
to heart on the transient nature of relationships with the opposite
sex. Over a couple of beers.

Somehow, I don't think this will be a big hit. Dave should stick
to Insomniac.
