1. I recently heard a Kinks song on a commercial too.
But right now I don't remember the song or the commercial. I hope it's the same one you heard, because I hate to think of Kinks songs showing up on commercials; hope they're not sellling a bunch of them for ads. For some reason, I have a feeling the one is saw is not the same one you're mentioning. :shrug:

I have a feeling he doesn't own anything prior to the 70s but that's more an impression I get from songs on "Lola Versus Powerman & the Moneygoround" than anything concrete that I've read.

The most complete Kinks site online is Dave Emlen's: http://kinks.it.rit.edu/. They have published articles, interviews and reviews dating from 1964 to 2004, so maybe there's an answer there.
