20. LOL!
Yes, I really didn't get it. This friend is in her thirties and my observation has been that many of that generation (Gen X, to use the media term) just automatically react against the preceding generation (Liberals, Hippies, counterculture) without giving it a lot of thought. She has always proudly voted Repub without watching the news or reading newspapers or otherwise informing herself about current events.

I am frightened by what a casual, ego-based choice she makes when she votes. The cowboy comment was very disturbing to me, considering what is at stake.

"He's taking the fight to the terrorists"

"I don't agree with Bush, but he's pro life so I'll vote for him"

"He stands by his positions no matter what"

"I'm impressed by his character" (swear to Invisible Cloud Being, a AIM pal of mine who never showed any freepish tendancies dropped that bomb on me two nights ago)

18. People really seem to go for that
The fact that Bush sticks to his guns even when he's mind-bendingly wrong somehow endears him to a lot of folks.

I try to figure out why stubborness in the face of unyielding wrongness is such a popular trait, but it just makes my nose bleed.

73. No, the Cuban Missile Crisis was NOT a big disaster.
We came very close to nuclear war. Kennedy ignored his hawkish advisers & cut a deal with Khruschev. (I bet Nikita had some hawks on his back, too.)

What grade did you get on that report?

84. I got an A
and it was also published by the Organization of American Historians. Pretty damn cool huh!

Hmmm my teachers did not teach that this incident was a big win in school--I was taught that it was at best a standoff. I think the end result got a lot of criticism some people were not thrilled to have soviet warheads in Cuba (pretty dammed close!) pointed at the US. But hey I can see how you may feel that was a big win (also the Turkey stuff--not good for US). For example if a person was a Stalinist sympathizer, I guess that they would consider it a big win. I personally consider it a stalemate at the very best. But we lost more than we won once again just my opinion. You may enjoy the audio tapes and notes from Kennedy's conversations at that time, that is where most of my knowledge came from.

Hey--you are following me around! It is like having my own little pet! This is so cool. I already am like a celebrity with a hanger-on who follows me and analyzes my every word! I am going to like it here very much. OK I hate to disappoint my number 1 fan, but I am probably not going to be around much for a while. My parents are doing a huge DNC fundraiser and I am going to be pretty busy for a little while helping them out. Hey write a big check to the DNC and help us all out!

19. I overheard my fourth-grader ask a classmate...
if he liked Bush. The response was, "Do you like Kerry? You know, he voted against equipment for the military and my cousin just joined the Marines."

AND, my fourth-grade son answered, "Oh, that was part of a bill that included a lot of other stuff." I almost fell off my chair, since I don't remember ever having a discussion with him about that particular issue.

30. Mom is from NJ
but now lives in AZ. She's a lovely person and the best MIL in the world. I think what drives her nuts is the sex stories about the Kennedys. She liked Clinton until Monicagate. She gets the vapours easily when it comes to sex issues.
So, that's what got under her bonnet about the Kennedys, and she justs holds a grudge. She dislikes Kerry because Ted endorsed him, probably.

44. "Because I just LOVE the Bush family!!"
Silly me, I thought that the person who said this to me actually had had some contact with the Bush family, and had developed a relationship with them on which she based this "love."

Oh, no. She reads those puff pieces in magazines, and that's how she came to "love" the Bushes. It is absolutely sickening. Once she decided she loved them, there was nothing they could do to turn her away. It is more important that her first impression (shit shoveled by a rah-rah magazine article, no less!) be confirmed at every turn, rather than the truth be evaluated in order to elect the most suitable person.

There are a lot of people like her out there. Now, I'm not a big reader of mainstream women's magazines or general interest magazines like People, Good Housekeeping, etc., and I don't watch such stuff on TV, but did Kerry's campaign make sure glowing articles about the Kerry family appeared in all the major magazines? If not, then they failed to reach women like the one I described.

Bush reasons:

My Tax Cuts
My Guns
My Safety against terrorists (like terrorists are gonig to want to invade Delaware :eyes:)

Kerry reasons:

Healthcare for everyone
Education for everyone
Choice for everyone
Equal Opportunity for everyone

Seriously next time you talk with republicans, see how many times they talk about the reasons why they are voting for Bush and how many times they say MEMEMEMEMEMEMEME

Then listen to a group of Kerry supporters and see how many times they talk about basically making the world better for everyone. Repukes just don't care how anything affects the rest of the world as long as they have their tax cuts, their guns and their perceived safety!

68. I have news for all of them
Bush*'s invasion and occupation of Iraq has totally inflamed the Middle East. If they were pissed off enough at the "infidel" Americans to orchestrate and perpetrate 9/11, how must they feel now, after we launched an unprovoked war on an Arab nation that was never the slightest threat to us? We are in greater danger, not less, because of Bush*'s intemperate actions. In 1996, on the fifth anniversary of the "first" Gulf War, Bush Sr. said that the reason that he didn't go in and take out Saddam Hussein was because it would have "turned the Arab world against us and destabilized the region." Junior should have listened to his father.:scared:

Someone was going to vote for Bush because she felt,"he deserved another chance to prove himself."
Does that mean Bush's first term came with training wheels and the second the wheels come off?

67. Because Kerry got seated first in a restaurant.
No joke. She and her husband were out to dinner at a restaurant in MA. Kerry arrived, was promptly given service. She, hubby, everyone else in line had to wait up 'til 1.5 hours later. Made a 'pact' with her husband that they would never vote for Kerry because of the preferential treatment he was given. UGH. That's a great single-voter issue, LOL.

Also, taking the fight to the terrorists.
Drawing all the terrorists into Iraq.
He's a nice guy.
He's a Christian (I agree, you shall know them by their fruits...)

74. "I don't like Kerry"
This older woman was bitching and moaning recently about the sharp rise in Medicare premuims in 2005 and how she is on a fixed income and can barely make ends meet now.

When she was asked who she would vote for she said shrub because "I don't like Kerry."

Lady, get a friggin clue or shut your pie hole about Medicare.

There's this freeper-extraordinaire on another message board I frequent. He is so into the shrub that his tirades about him are akin to prostelytizing for a much revered deity. I even had to ask him if he had a shrine to the shrub, so much does he fawn over him.
