Harry & Tonto: So sad I can never watch it again!

When Art Carney is chasing that cat on the beach at the end... well, that is IT for ZeeDub!

And I have a thick skin otherwise. Forget the dead football player in "Brian's Song"! Forget Ali McGraw with cancer in "Love Story"! Forget all those other fakey, supposedly sad, and manipulative endings!

"Harry & Tonto" has them all beat to bloody hell. :cry:

Miyazaki's Grave of the Fireflies.

I watched that for the first time ever last night and I've been emotionally distraught all day.

Incredible film, incredible animation. I had read reviews and recommendations prior to watching, and I knew the general ending but I was not prepared for the emotional impact it would have on me. I think tears were streaming down my face for a good 15 minutes.

I think I need to watch My Neighbor Totoro to cheer myself up. :-)

You get attached to the little critters sometimes despite it all...He left the company of the lady trying to acquaint herself for a little stray cat...

Good gaw now I'm all a weepy just thinking about it...

And Art Carney is dead now, too!

was Indian for "He who knows little"
so allthe time the Lone Ranger and Tonto were insulting each other!

Admittedly tonto was a little thick sometimes...like in the old Bill Cosby routine, always getting sent to town where he got beat up! Just once to here him reply when the Lone Ranger says "Now Tonto, I want you to go to town-" "You go to hell kemosabe!"

8. may I ask how it ends

I heard the cat dies so I never saw the movie. I have cats and love them dearly...so even though I knew it was a good film, I couldn't see it. (Sort of like Schindler's List, I almost didn't see it because who the hell wants to watch that incredible cruelty and agony and pain.)

10. Harry settles in California

His loser son in CA is played by the great Larry Hagman - a memorable scene in itself. Harry has to put Tonto down because of age and illness. He says goodbye to him through this little glass window at the vet's. :cry:

It was a simple scene, and dignified. Harry kept his composure, and said goodbye to his friend with great love in his voice. For that masterfully and deceptively simple take, Carney won his Oscar.

Oh man! I cannot go on... ask someone else!
