Why Do TV Shows That Are SUPPOSED To Start At 8:00 PM...
... actually start at 7:55 PM? (Hey NBC and SciFi... that really pisses me off! Especially when you advertise the show as starting ON the hour or half-hour... it really screws things up when I try to record them automatically.)

What's the deal with the HUGE animated banner ads that run DURING the show? --- Yeah, I know it's always a "self-promoting" banner ad letting us know what show is coming up next... but it's only a matter of time before RANDOM banner ads for sponsor's products are overlayed throughout the broadcast as well. ENOUGH ALREADY!

And speaking of banner ads. Can you think of anything more stupid than the banner ad that says "You are watching The Simpsons"? Well DUH!! --- WHY THE FUCK would they distract me and waste time putting up a banner to tell me something as OBVIOUS as that? Just STOP IT!!

And "squeezing" the credits of a movie to insert a promo commercial. Don't do that anymore!!!! The credits are there for a reason. They are a PART of the original movie. --- I (for one) actually READ the credits.

Okay, rant over... Thanks for listening.

1. Maybe your clocks are off. I see shows start at a minute before or after
the hour. But never 5 minutes before.

2. Nope... because the PBS shows record PERFECTLY
every time. --- Besides it's my ReplayTV which syncs up automatically with an atomic clock over the internet.

It's definitely the networks that cheat on the start times.

3. I know it really makes me mad when I can't see the credits
Inevitably there's an actor whose name I don't know that I like, or there might be a song I wanted to know who did or something.

I also hate that when you're in the movie theater once the credits start rolling everyone stands up and wants to get out - so I never get to see my credits in the theater either!

4. Is Andy Rooney on vacation this week?
LOL....It does piss me off that Jimmy Kimmel ends at 1:05AM, and The Daily Show starts at 1:00AM.
I always miss the band at the end.

Consistancy is a good thing, sometimes.

6. NBC started this on Thursday nights a few years ago
I don't know about 8 o'clock shows but the 8:30 and 9:00 shows start right after the lead-in so that you don't tune away. It has been proven to work.

Ted Turner did something like this with TBS the Superstation, his shows/movies started :05 after the top or bottom of the hour so that you could flip around and then check TBS if you didn't like anything else. They also ran their commercials 5 minutes later so people like me could always flipped over to TBS instead of watching a commercial which are usually coordinated on the networks (THAT bugs the hell out of me).

Letterman went off a few years ago about the CBS logo being in the corner of the screen. He said it was an invasion of privacy, I THINK they took it off his show.

8. And... I *Know* That The Science Channel Has "Changed Its Name". STOP IT!!
Discovery Science changed its name to "The Science Channel" over TWO YEARS AGO!!! That's right--- TWO YEARS AGO!

Please stop with the promos and voice-overs reminding me that you've changed your name! Aaaaaaah! Enough already.

Pronounced just like that.

One of my favorite lines in the move "First Wives Club" is when Diane Keaton's daughter comes out to her father. -- "Dad, I'm a lesbian. A big one."

10. What Shows On SF Start 5 Minutes Early?
I never noticed it that bad...maybe a minute, but 5?! And I watch SFC all the time...That's why I always set my VCR timer a couple of minutes early and let it run a couple of minutes late, just in case...

12. Yep... My recorder will let me pad both ends with additional time...
... but if you're recording sequential shows on two different channels then it starts to be problematic to pad the ends.

Sigh.

Oh well.

-- Allen

P.S. I've noticed it on Stargate SG1 and Andromeda (only I think with Andromeda... they run OVER the alotted time and I miss part of the end.)

13. I Always Watch Stargate!
Sometimes they start like a minute early...Never seen it start 5 minutes early

I like Andromeda, but I missed a lot of shows and now when I watch it I feel lost, which sucks...I hate when that happens...The same thing happened to me w/ Farscape... I really wanted to watch that show, but I missed too many of the episodes early on and then I hate having to play catch up...

I think you need two vcr's! ;-)

What do you think of Atlantis so far?

15. I'm Liking It Better Than I Thought I Would...
It reminds me (in a way) of Star Trek: Voyager, in that the Atlantis team is far removed from the direct influence of the SGC (the same way that Voyager didn't have to be held accountable to Starfleet).

The Raith (Wraith?) are a unique villain... but I'm still wondering how it is that all these alien civilizations speak English? (Oh, the minor details.)

16. Yeah, They Never Really Explained That Did They?
How all the aliens speak English...They did however make fun of themselves about it in that one episode when O'Neill was on the set of the SG-like TV show that the stranded alien was working on...

I'm pretty well accustomed to it now.

The ads though... if they start advertising who knows what on there I will stop watching anything that's not on DVD or VHS.
