My thoughts on the Assault Weapons Ban.

Scientists have known for over two years now that assault weapons in the home are far more likely to kill your loved ones then they are a prowler. But they look so cool!

Sure, gunning down a home invader with an AK-47 would be pretty fucking sweet, but it'd be even cooler to use a samurai sword. So chalk one up for the gun control guys.

The problem is that in forty years because of peak oil your everyday suburb is going to look like downtown Fallujah, and that samurai sword just won't be as effective as an AK-47 against those murderous gangs of Mad Max children. But then again, that AK-47 won't be terribly effective against those giant Japanese robots. So scratch another one up for the gun control guys.

So I say we just put all our time and effort into building enormous nuclear-powered submersible battleships. Cause that there's the future of warfare.

1. Your argument is the most lucid and non-combative I've seen on this issue
Better crazy it up a little if you want responses.

4. I was thinking of a response....
Let's see if I can come up with one...

My opinion on this issue is..

I think this idea you have is way off. I think that this is not going to change much at all. Just a few opinions is all. There were all kinda people upset about the ban but it wasn't the people that meant any harm to anyone. It was only the people that loved the firearms that had some umph to 'em. Mostly in target practice. And the thought of someone anyone invading their home. I have had some of the exact same thoughts. Thank goodness I haven't had to act on them. Because I had access to some of those weapons you are talking about

Do not think that the people who want to do the illegal things have not had access to the weapons in question. Because they have! If they wanted them they were there so this ban going out of affect is not going to change anything.

In my humble opinion.

3. Staring down the barrel of the NRA
<snip>
This is the politics of the nod and the wink. As Jim VandeHei and Paul Farhi reported in The Post, the NRA is planning to spend $400,000 a week until the election to condemn John Kerry's votes for gun control. Overall, the organization expects to spend $20 million on this election, mostly to help Republican candidates.

5. That makes total sense!
After all, the polar ice caps are melting as we speak, and soon many of the cities will be underwater, so the submersible battleships (Sublattleships, we'll call them) will be a necessity , particularly if they manage to invent giant robots that can swim!

8. Now you're just being ridiculous.
There's no way those robots can swim. They're too heavy.

6. I feel making semi-auto rifles illegal is like making cocaine illegal.

Law abiding citizens will posess neither.

Both will infiltrate our society.
The contraband will end up in the hands of those willing to pay the premium.
