You find out that someone you are casual friends with is not, in fact, just a Repub, but has truly drunk the Kool-Aid? On another chat board I'm on, there is a woman who I (used to?) consider pretty intelligent. However, on a post asking for why people support Bush (from one of the other libs, trying to get perspective), she spews all the same "not changing horses" and "I just trust him" and "yeah, I watch Fox, but I also get my news online" bullshit. And the "he was handed a recession", and ... and... and. It goes on. UGH. Between that and trying to argue for nationalization of health insurance against a couple of libertarians on there, a bad day for my state of political mind. Maybe I should just move to Canada, eh? ;)

as far as I'm concerned there's no such thing as a "casual friend"...I think of those people as acquaintances. And I'm sometimes able to avoid politics if I have other reasons for talking to someone and I find out our views are incompatible in that area.
