WOW... Matt Lauer is Actually Reading some Negative (to him) emails
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 06:41 AM by Misunderestimator
Damn... And the FIRST letter he read was EXTREMELY positive, saying that they were now convinced to buy her book and that she handled herself well under aggressive questioning.

Another TWO letters he read criticized NBC for being pro-Bush.

Only one letter (so far) that was negative to her, but it was lame and forgettable (I already forgot it).

Now he's talking about the Golf... showed the interview shots with Bush Sr. Now he's accusing her of having twisted her question.

Now another email - Someone saying that Kitty set him up with the golf question. (another lame one).

I'll give it to him, he seemed to have toned it down today. It was very civil for the most part.

10. Well, that was pretty much it. It wasn't the hard-hitting crapfest
from the past two days. As some posts below say, he was a puppy dog today instead of aggressively trying to shred her. I truly think that all the negative email had a positive effect.

When he read one of the negative ones, accusing Today Show of being a mouthpiece for the Bush White House, he asked her to comment... so she laughed and said (paraphrased) "Well, actually NBC is the only one that didn't cave in the WH pressure to have me on, as most of the other networks did." Slam-dunk.

She's good.

2. Wow, They really must have gotten LOTS of negative (to NBC) letters
emails, calls, if he's changed his tune.

3. Yeah.................
he tones it down when it doesn't matter anymore. Lauer's a boot licking sycophant of the CONS. You can put all the lipstick you want on tht pig and it isn't going to make him appear any better in my book.

6. Me either... I simply am using the change in tone as a barometer of
how much bombardment they must have gotten from the likes of us!!!!

5. He completely backed down
The pit-bull of the last two days was now a cuddly sheep-dog. Unbelievable. They must have been snowed under with negative e-mails about his first two hostility fests.
I sent one and said I'd never watch "Today" again - apart from today when I had to see the last interview.

7. Kitty Kelly is a pro, she knew the media scrutiny on this book would be
sky high. I think she's been well prepared for the onslaught of the conservative press.

11. In yesterday's interview she implied that he had a personal relationship
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 07:00 AM by Misunderestimator
with Bush Sr... that he had played golf with him. Matt immediately said that he had never played golf. Within minutes there were still pictures posted here on DU from the interview he did with Bush Sr. where they were playing golf (admittedly it was during an interview, but the point was that Matt denied playing golf).

Lots of letters and phone calls about that (there was a thread here yesterday where a lot of people called and wrote).

So, he put his cards on the table this morning and showed the same stills, and backed out of any blame of lying, as was to be expected. It was a paper tiger anyway, but it was good to see him bring it up again today after a flood of emails and calls. And a good idea for him too, as it pretty much absolved him of lying (kinda).

12. He told her he'd been conducting an interview on Bush's putting green
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 07:01 AM by marshallplan
That he'd never had a personal relationship with Poppy or played a proper round of golf with him (OWTTE). He askd her why she'd said he'd played golf with Bush, and she replied that he'd been holding a flag while Bush was putting - it looked like golf to her.
He tried to make out that this was her modus operandi, that she twists facts to suit her own ends, but he ended up sounding weak and whiney.

The great majority of e-mails they read were positive for Kelley and very negative for Lauer.

13. That was what amazed me... that most of the letters were positive.
And the first one so positive that she said "Was that my sister?" and "That person goes in my will!"

Good stuff today.

14. No wonder playgirl readers found Andy Rooney sexier than Matt Lauer
seriously, Rooney came in like 2-3 places higher! Probably because nothing is unsexier than a Bush apologist!!
