Father Faces Charges - His 2 Year Old Daughter Got DRUNK!
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 12:01 PM by matcom
<snip>

FAIRFIELD, N.Y. -- A central New York man faces child endangerment charges after his two-year-old daughter got drunk.

State police say the girl was treated Sunday at a hospital for a blood alcohol level of .14, nearly twice the legal limit for an adult.

Troopers say Eric Carney of Little Falls was at a friend's house when he gave his daughter a taste of beer. He says she probably drank more on her own while he wasn't looking.

When he returned the toddler to her mother, she noticed that something was wrong. She took the girl to Little Falls Hospital, where doctors determined the child was intoxicated.

The girl was treated and released into the care of her mother.

1. This man was stupid but..
I do remember that my 2 year old had an insane interest in beer cans, and while I never (and would never) give him a taste, a certain (Bush-loving BTW) relative thought it would be amusing once. Needless to say, I stopped him.

But it was uncanny -- we stayed in a hotel room once, where there was a small fridge full of sodas and water, and my son would drag the single can of beer out from the back of the fridge and start crying for it.

2. Heck my oldest brother
gave me a sip of beer when I was 18 months old. I kept coming back for more until I drank the whole can. My mother was royally p.o.'d at him. I'm now in my low fifies and it didn't warp my behavior ... or did it?

3. That's terrible! How irresponsible.
But I must admit, when I was very young, my father would give us sips of beer. He came from a large German family where that was perfectly acceptible. But he never left his beer can around where we could get to it.

6. Despicable father, but the article is wrong on a point of Rights.
There is no such thing as "nearly twice the legal limit for an adult". Yes, we can be almost sure that they are referring to a legal limit for driving. However, it important to step on the meme that adults can't get drunk legally. Rights are rights and enough of them have been taken away without taking more away.
