'Slutwear' Is So Last Year on New York Runways
<snip>

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Now you see it. Soon you won't. In a trend sure to be a relief to some and a disappointment to others, women will cover up instead of baring it all next season as the "slutwear" look comes to an end.

Demure designs have replaced scanty navel-baring looks on the catwalks of this week's semi-annual run of fashion shows, a reliable sign of what shoppers can expect to find in stores next spring.

"The slut is out now. She's dead," said Godfrey Deeny, senior fashion critic at Fashion Wire Daily.

In recent seasons, fashion has been filled with skimpy tops exposing midriffs, cleavage-revealing necklines and jeans slung so low that precious little was left to the imagination -- looks impossible to avoid on such pop icons as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

This season, blousy linen took the place of sheer chiffon, while shades of white chased away an edgier black. Necklines were up, while hemlines were hovering down at the knee.

"It's very ladylike. It's not jump-into-bed fashion," Deeny said of the new look on runways as established powerhouses to new designers trotted out more fabric and less skin than in seasons past.

4. Thank you!
I never understood people who let the idiot fashionistas determine their wardrobe.

I wear what I like. I could give a damn if it's "in style" or not. I think "in-style" just means your are a pathetic conformist with no opinions or ideas of your own.

6. Do you have teenagers?
I have actually lived through being told by a thirteen-year-old whippersnapper, "Mom, your jeans are soooooo lame!"

Suddenly you consider the possibility that you're not as cool as you think you are. Then you relize this is totally ridiculous and continue on your very cool way ...

10. No, no kids.
I actually dress pretty simply and in solid colors. My self expression comes in w/ accessories. I love vintage/or retro, especially jackets/coats. I kind of like anything that's NOT in style, that is unique and reflects who I am, not who society thinks I should be.

However, it's much harder for teens, so much pressure to be cool and fit in that NOT to conform takes a lot of self-esteem - especially if she's a female.

I agree with you that TRYING to be cool is most "uncool" :)

15. the fashion mavens don't determine style
Girls who live in places like london, tokyo and new york do. The fashion mavens just take pictures of what they see then in a few months tell people in the midwest to dress the same way.
