Interesting story about Ole Spiro, my dad grew up near DC and Maryland so he heard the ads, Spiro actually went by Ted Agnew when he ran for governor there, which is kind of funny how Spiro who I've read was quite xenophobic and made ethnically unsensitve comments would run on his real name.

I remember thinking how awful it would be for Dan Quayle to be president, that America would be the laughing stalk of the world if we elected someone so stupid. And just look at us now! GWB is essential Dan Quayle with a fake accent.

Is this some kind of Repub strategy, to pick a VP who is scary or stupid or otherwise undesirable? Kind of an insurance that the pres won't get assassinated, because, God forbid, then we'd get Bush/Quayle/Cheney...?
